yes these 4 years (out of the six championships) with vw, the competition was extremely high.lol

Can`t argue, but can`t agree also...
2003, ok, he lost to Solberg with 1 point and in general, the top was together until the end...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003_W...y_Championship
2004 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_W...y_Championship
and the list goes on and on. In any case, Ogier has had competition from 1, max. 2 guys before, still each time he was crowned champion 2-3 rallies before the end. Today he also has competition from...two guys, with the exception that the fight goes further, even until the last stages of the season.
Nothing away from master Loeb, but I think there is no dispute that WRC has been more competitive from 2017 onwards at least than in any of Loeb's Championship years. Sainz, Mäkinen & McRae were not Loeb's era really, but the previous era that was bowing out as Loeb was getting in to his stride. Still, Loeb would have probably won those titles anyway, no matter what the competition. But the way I remember it, WRC in about 2006-2009 was really depressing and it wasn't because of Loeb's domination, but because the level of competition was really poor compared to the preceding era and even the cars were more boring than in the previous or following era. I'd say we are definitely living a golden era again and let's enjoy it while it lasts.
Yesterday's gate-gate brought a little flashback into my mind. Nothing new about Argentina & roadbook confusions. :D

imagine ogier has committed to right hand gate'as he almost did, and hit gate with left wheel, instead or right.. and continued with broken power steering. would citroen still have complained. Citroen's only focus was to gain road position of day 3.. and the FIA obliged.
Like Mr. Wilson answered then: what time card?
Again: people shouldn’t blame Ogier; they should blame the FIA for starting to penalize corners cutting or artificial barriers hitting. This is rally, not circuit racing and improvisation should be part of the driving.
sordo just said meeke will still start behind sordo and ogier, becuase the road order was published before the penalty was issued... interesting
I was also reminded of this. :D

Yes it's Safari, but still modern era WRC. Difference being, apparently the roadbook in that case had two options on which route to take, so all ok. I remember cases from past with huge shortcuts that are more like blatant cheating than just improvising a little bit. Delecour in 1994 Monte Carlo comes to mind when he cut a huge field and gained something like 20-30 seconds, according to Kankkunen. I don't think he was carrying an onboard camera in that rally. Ironically, karma bit Delecour and he got disqualified that year for an apparently accidental shortcut in the RAC. Also remember from the last day of Finland 2013 when Neuville and Östberg were making big shortcuts across some grass field in front of the TV cameras. No penalties, but I think they were told not to do it on the second run. Where do you draw the line?
haha Meeke comment about gate penalty - was perfect ))))
There seems to be less discussion of road order in this rally. Is it making less difference than usual?
That's a pretty accurate statement from Meeke
virtual standings at the moment
Neuville 107
Ogier 95
Tänak 79
Meeke 52
Evans 43
Mikkelsen 30
Last year after Argentina
Neuville 100
Ogier 90
Tänak 72
basically same
All the Michelin @OfficialWRC drivers with 5 MICHELIN LTX Force Medium (M6)
All this technical inventions having no or at least small addition from alternator on stages makes me think. The more gizmos you put in a rallycar, the more things can break down...
Just a small tip to Toyota and the rest of the pack as well...
I'll pass this valuable info to the Toyota engineers. Thanks for your help... :D
3 minutes intervals for all crews
