Me neither.
Was it the Fiesta slowing him down? (in 2018 Ogier won the title in it...)
or is it that anyone is fast in Yaris? (look at Meeke and Latvala last year, they were top 3 fast almost everywhere)
A bit of both?
Agree that this kind of discussion will go on forever.

Tänak had max speed 188km/h (according to wrc plus) before the corners, 172km/h around that first and second bump (he has only incar cam so i cant get the exact places compared to others)
Evans 182km/h before spectators but i see the spectators are showing him to slow down so after that 160km/h but i dont know if he did that because of them or not
Ogier has 185km/ little bit before that place, again spectators showing with hands to slow down, he does to 168km/h but man, has a veeery hairy moment too, lucky i would say
Neuville also 180km/h before spectators but he clearly sees them and then slows down to 130km/h after
Suninen hasnt got the spectators there because he was first one, but again around that spectators place 180km/h and 160km/h something exactly on that spot were the bumps were and has a lucky escape as we have seen from youtube vid.
Same story for Lappi as Suninen speedwise and Janne is laughing after they have a moment there, lol
wha i want to say is thank god the spectators were there and showed to slow down for othres, without them there might have been even more crashes

Weird to see a 7 times winner so slow. I wonder if time has finally caught up with him, or if he just doesn't care enough anymore.
On the last rally ran in 2019 he led after the first leg with gravel car. It's just the Hyundai tarmac car that apparently can't be made to fit multiple drivers.

Who? Tänak?
You don't see him complaining about the car often.
In a recent interview when asked about Toyotas reliability he said he never feared about it breaking down going into a rally and added that it's a technical sport and things happen.
And how would you blame the car in this situation? A misjudgement writing the pacenotes and he has openly said that.

If you look at last year Meeke's pace was pretty similar to Evans this year, so I don't see it as impossible.
(See for example https://www.ewrc-results.com/leg/52398-rallye-automobile-de-monte-carlo-2019/?leg=3 )

I wouldn't count "beating Loeb" when Loeb is this slow. Other than that Rovanpera is doing very well, in a way better than I expected, keep it on the road at quite good speed and learning.
Still it won't change that I think it's bad idea to put him in the 3rd car while they say they aim for manu champ. It puts unecessary pressure on him and he is unlikely to regularly finish in better points than Hyundais 3rd car.

If you asked me yesterday lunchtime, I would say Ogier, but somehow Evans has found something else.
He’s a pretty level character, so hard to tell how much he actually feels like he can pull this off, but I watched the same lad carrying on in the same way, in Wales a couple of years ago and he nailed it then.

Ogier, cause Evans gained time on mixed stages/stage sections. On the stages or parts that were dry Neuville and Ogier were slightly ahead.
Which is actually opposite to what I expected, historically Evans did well in Monte (and Corsica last year) on dry stages and struggled on mixed ones.

im getting the feeling you both and many others here dont want to admit the Toyota actually isnt that much faster and better car like many expected. It also seems to me it has hit Ogier too when he sees the times at the end of the stages at thats why he isnt so excited.
Evans who in 5 WRC starts never was better than 6th in Monte and never really fought for podium either now immediately fights for win. Tanak went from easily beating everyone last year (on speed) here to crashing from 4th.. but yeah Toyota is bad.
Try harder...I am sure you will as the year is long.

I am getting a feeling that Ogier is not pushing 100%, not only today but also most of yesterday. Doesn't want to risk missing point advantage when Tanak is already out?
I'm pin this post and we go back later on it after probably Portugal
hehe, totally fine. im not saying he wont be dominating in the future, you never know when something clicks suddenly.
But i mean, the one and only rally where you expect Ogier to win and dominate no matter what the car is Monte Carlo, his record here speaks for itself.
He was beating Evans left and right in M-sport days and is now struggling to match him the whole weekend.

wrc+ got worse and worse. 50% of rolling car, 40% interviewed car and only 10% of pushing car
This stage was shortened from the end for some reason, but the time control is still in the same place. Thus the distance from the finish line to the end interview is much longer.
Can't help noticing the big Pirelli signs on the banks...

where did i say the car is bad? and one crash in 2 years now means he cant drive at all?
i too expected Ogier to come here and dominate, most of all because of his Monte record no matter what the car but it hasnt happened, like i said it doesnt mean it wont happen this season.
Evans has had this sudden performance rises int he past too, Corsica 2019 the recent one. im not taking anything away from this weekend, he has been brilliant and i wish he would win.

All in all it's too early to make conclusions, especially because Monte is so special event. Going into a new car shuffles the deck and for Evans it has been a easier/quicker/better fit than for Ogier.
Could also be that Ogier is losing his motivation.

SS14 Update
Veiby's Hyundai i20 has lost a wheel and it sounds like he could be blocking the stage.
Stage halted
Organisers have decided to halt the stage. More news as we know it.

yep, cuz he felt OK with Fiesta basically straight away, getting some experience by every next rally. Now we got a 1 WRC rally winner beating 52 times rally winner and 6 times champion. It's not happen for nothing.
Loeb told as yesterday that he can't much Yaris speed cuz it too fast car. For me a point of 9time WDC matters and I believe him. And you?
Low speed from Ogier now only cuz he cut off himself, to prevent crashing. 3rd pos it's better than retire. Only JML and Meeke didn't know that.
PS Ott will lose this champ for sure. 2nd or 3rd this a question. He's move and reaction from Toyota was like crying kid.

What if Ford is closer to Toyota than Citroen in driveability. Then it is only logical that it takes less time to adapt the car. since there's less thing to adapt.
Both Ogier and Lappi were complaining about the behaviour of Citroen.

I can see exactly the same kind of frustration on Ogier's face like in previous year with Citroen. Wonder if his wife is gonna tweet about "Shitoyota" anytime soon.

Nobody said that, just that Tanak was slower on Monte this year in i20 than last year in Yaris, which is a fact.
Evans has had this sudden performance rises int he past too, Corsica 2019 the recent one.
In Corsica 2019, Suninen in his first rally in WRC on Corsica almost beat Sordo and decimated Loeb and Latvala. So Fiesta totally wasn't a bad car there, proving the point here again.
Huge sudden changes in driver performances are mostly down to car (and ajusting to it). This has been proven over and over again in last 20 years, yet some people always blame the driver (or applaud him). Going from Martin's change from Ford to 307, Solbergs decline in later Subarus and then suddenly fighting in the top in C4 and very recently with the likes of Loeb forgetting how to drive on tarmac right after winning a tarmac rally.

I believe there's a difference between "bad" and "not being dominating". Can't interpret everything as one wants to think. When it comes to Ott's speed, he already seemed faster on the first stage of Friday. Can't make many conclusions based on 3 stages. Nobody knows where he would have ended up on Sunday afternoon if it wasn't the crash. Let's wait and see at least couple of rallies and hopefully there will be 4 top drivers fighting for championship this year.

Because this broadcast is targeted to "regular" viewers who might get confused if the car switches in the middle and then cuts to someone else's interview? I dunno. We understand this sport, but it's complicated to explain for the average man down the road.
I agree that it was dull to watch, but I also try to understand why they chose to do it like this.

One thing that people forget that performance is not just a simple sum of driver and car performance. They much match together, it's more like a chemical reaction. One car suits one driver better and vice versa.
