Holy crap. That was a big one! It went on for a long time too.
Seemed like that compression unsettled the car, then it was all over. To me at least probably a tough one to spot at reccy speed.

Genuine concern from Ogier. The longer time goes on the more I like him, in the VW years I'll admit I wasn't a fan.

ah i already waited when this starts :D
this is Monte, and everything can happen with everyone. It was inevitable that the crash would come someday, the longer the pause is, the more realistic that it will come one day. And today it came.
i would say the aftermath was bigger than the mistake, just little too fast there but consequenses were big.

Let´s wait and see. However repaired Ott will drive like Jocius rest of the rally.
I´ve really been more and more uncomfortable with the development. The speed will take its share of accidents if something is not done. Especially RMC is a dangerous rally. As said.

Perhaps too optimistic pace note. Around 80 meters brake blockage marks before the right with the fist compression. Compression could upset undercar donwforce due to airflow strangulation before diffuser. Second compression on the left does not help and very slight humid. I am on the place.

I think we all know why Katsuta is driving. If it wasn't for Katsuta, they wouldn't have a fourth car, it's meaningless for the manufacturers title. Katsuta is there for a reason.

All WRC teams have deployed four cars at a rally after 2017 (including Citroen). It's not a matter of resources, it's a question of someone paying for it.
Also, it's pointless to say "you have a WRC car in the garage, why not let someone drive it?". Of course they have spare chassises, but it's not free to run it.

Yeah it looked mostly a gentle slope down the hill onboard, but the more videos and images we see it seems to get worse and worse. I think we can all be happy that everyone is safe and ok.
We could also add that it’s fortunate that no Marshall or spectator cars were parked on the road below.

The vice-World Champion is 8.9 seconds behind the former M-Sport driver, while Sébastien Ogier (Toyota Yaris WRC), third, is only eight tenths of a second behind his Belgian rival.
"It was a difficult morning for us, admitted Thierry Neuville at the microphone of Olivier Gaspard, the RTBF's special envoy to the south of France. We start the morning 19 seconds early, we finish with 10 seconds late. Not a good morning for us, and yet I think we did well in the last two stages. In the first, it was very complicated: we stalled, we lost time ... and it took a long time to understand the annotations of our openers (Bruno Thiry, his usual opener, being sick, it is the Spaniard Dani Sordo who replaces him in this particular role this weekend, Editor's note: Obviously, we don't always speak the same language, and I was suddenly a little hesitant. Toyota in front of this morning? This is probably worrying for this rally, but for the rest, I don't know But at this speed, we will have a hard time resisting them. A little more difficult conditions, this could have der, because under fairly constant conditions, they go very fast. "

the good old Ogier
--------------------------------------
Neck and neck, the two men had to bow this Friday morning against the speed of the Welsh Elfyn Evans (Toyota Yaris WRC), very comfortable for his first driving the Japanese racing car, and now in the lead of the event with a little ten seconds in advance.
"It was a decent morning, everything is fine so far, rejoiced Sébastien Ogier at the microphone of Olivier Gaspard, the RTBF's special envoy on Monte-Carlo. But I'm not yet 100 % comfortable, and I'm sure we can do even better. The proof is that our teammate is doing better than us at the moment! But we're going to hang on. "
And when we tell him that Thierry Neuville said that if the conditions remained constant, he could not do anything against the Toyota: "Thierry, anyway, it's never his fault if he is not fast enough, we know that! "smiled the six-time World Champion, used to little" wars of words "with his Belgian rival in recent years.

Nobody knows whether the two Finns just aren't doing a good enough job, or if it's the car that is also lacking and falling behind vs the Toyota and Hyundai. They both could've done with more of a reference in the team.

Update from Rallye Monte-Carlo organisers following Tänak's crash in SS4
The car left the road at high speed and after several rolls ended on a road below the rally road. Both occupants exited the vehicle on their own and were reportedly free of serious injuries. They were examined by the Doctor of Automobile Club of Monaco, who arrived at the scene at 10:09. Then the Dragon helicopter, which arrived on site at 10:34 and departed at 10:36 for Gap Hospital, evacuated them. On their arrival at 11:04, the crew TANAK Ott (driver) and JARVEOJA Martin (co-driver) was taken over by the medical team of the Emergency Department where further examinations were done. The medical status is comforting but as a matter of precaution and because of the strength of the impact, the doctors have decided to keep the crew under observation until Saturday morning.

He shouldn't talk himself down so much. There are some promising splits here and there, he just has to string them together which I believe will come when he becomes accustomed to the Fiesta.

So that leaves not much space for good drivers.

Having watched now that Tänak crash like thousand times with different vids, it was the second bump which was nail in the coffin. it seems he would have made it after that first but then the second one just makes him and Martin travelers.
but it was so lucky one, massive massive crash and thank god no one wasnt at the side of the road there or something like that. The last time he had a crash massive as that was in Finland 2016.
the most painful thing is the rally is over and they cant get the experience with the car, just two test days and 3 stages so far with the car. with Sweden being questionable and you never know, the next event may even be Mexico for them.
But the pace was more than i expected, out of the 3 stages on 2 he was faster than Neuville (ok Neuville had that mega time on stage2) which i didnt expect at all before the season.
But the record with consecutive stage wins stopped now.

Well, some day. Watched Tanak's crash live and it properly shook me up, as I'm sure it did many others. It's kind of one of those accidents where the cause actually doesn't matter at all... Even though they didn't initially impact anything, the first hit into the field was horrific in its own right. We could have been reflecting a very sombre day and they, along with everyone who cares about the sport have had a massive let-off.
I wonder what his reaction will be. Surely that's got to have some mental impact, but I guess we hear about the mindset of top drivers in all disciplines and their ability to just crack on with the next one. Sending him wishes he can do that and get himself back to speed soon enough.
The positive has to be Evans. Let free from the shackles at M-Sport and with such a good car, he goes and nails Ogier for most of the day... what better accolade can you possibly have than being quicker than Ogier on the Monte? No matter what he does for the rest of the rally, he's made his mark more than even when he won in Wales. He's growing stronger in confidence and ability still and I would love it (and not be surprised) if he's running at the top for a long while now.

Sorry for language, but I have watched different videos of today's crash for like 200 times.. and I can't still believe something like that happened and they fcking walked out of it.. Even last year's Neuville's crash was so fk sickening.. you just can't do anything behind the pc and no information is coming in.. Yes ofc the live cameras can't show it but all the thoughts makes you so sick.. Especially today.. there have been only couple of times that guys crash heavily while being AllLive.. I had my eyes off the TV like for 14.7 secs and then saw somebody of the road a bit.. First thought was that, okay it's a replay of a moment, but then realised it is live and Estonian flag on the screen..

It's good if it's closer on top when we have less drivers.
But I agree with others that it's early to tell.
Last year there were multiple drivers that were faster than one or more of the top 3 on a single or multiple rallies. Actually it happened on just about every other rally to Neuville and Ogier from all kinds of drivers (Lappi - SWE, FIN, TUR, Mikkelsen - Arg, Sar, FIN, TUR, Evans - Mex, COR, GB, Suninen - Sweden, Sard, Latvala - Fin... and this is just those that I remember from the top of my head, surely missing a few).
It was over multiple rallies combined that those 3 stood out so much in the standings.

Almost can't remember last time they used 6 studs.... don't think they did in 2017 even. Usually it's like 3/3 or 4/2 at most.

Suninen was the first car, Tänak second. Later starters got warned.
Did they got warned by some FIA incar system or by spectators? It sounded that in end of stage interview Ogier knew right away where it happened.

With the lack of more middle/top range drivers this year, the gap between top 3 and the rest will just be big like this

Well let's hope MSport guys are less hopeless on other rallies. Similarly Hyundais 3rd car has to be better than this.

Hyundai`s third car is at the moment Hyundais 2nd car, holding P4 and earning precious manuf. points.

We have eyes
Point is that it is 1 s/km behind the top 3. That should not be the case on most rallies.
EDIT: Certainly not with road position advantages on gravel.

now on live-maps they broke too. What a useless people doing this!? 2020! We don't have worked splits. On 2003 with a dial-up connection I have it. Move back me to 2003!

In this specific case it's not very comparable, last year top drivers had a lot of very different tire choices trough thrusday and friday in different conditions.
The one obvious difference is where Evans was then compared with now.

Yep, I wasn't making a point just interesting to see. Main difference is we now have three drivers fighting for the win rather than 2

sometimes yes, if it worked the way it was intended.
but if we look at evans, we can say the toyota is much much better than the fiesta.
