Man with blue shirt isn't a spectator - he is FIA official. so it's allowed 'help'

As per rules, is not. It specifically says that:
48.1.2 The crew, using solely the equipment on board and with no external physical assistance, may perform service on the car at any time, other than where this is specifically prohibited.

Man with blue shirt isn't a spectator - he is FIA official. so it's allowed 'help' = safety provided

What so you mean KKS? that he's allowed assistance from the official?

BigWorm

What did he do? All I saw was the FIA man putting a tire under the car, purely for Ogier's and Ingrassia's safety.

Rallyper
15th September 2018, 08:53
If that indeed is true, it might mean trouble for Ogier. Tommi Makinen was disqualified from 1999 Safari Rally for that reason.

https://www.nation.co.ke/news/1056-403504-ks6wbtz/index.html

He just put a wheel under the car for safety reasons. No help that is.

I guess, that if he just rolled a tyre to them (I didn't see it myself), then he technically didn't touch the car, just placed something under it?

jonkka

In that case it's not forbidden outside assistance, surely.

TC in 11.36, 33km to go.

Indreq
15th September 2018, 08:57
Even if some really strict interpretation of rule would state that this was "help" and infringement, then probably nobody would like this kind of thing to be protested and having any effect on championship. This would be pure "racing on paper" as this placing of tyre could possibly have no effect on outcome of rally.

PROHIBITED SERVICE ... use ... manufactured materials ....unless supplied by theorganisers...

Word "materials" refer to things like drinking water which are supplied EVENLY TO EVERY COMPETITOR, it doesn't mean that individual timing official can fix competitors car in his garage / with his power tools (a bit extreme but helps illustrate the issue). Additionally, like I wrote, your quote is Definition of Prohibited Service. It has no regulatory power other than defining.

Got my fingers crossed for Chris. Still such a long way to go and he's not exactly a stranger to bad luck. A big performance here might free him up a bit to push in Wales. He had previously said he was going for a finish on his home event.

"Everything was going well, the car was very good, 8 kilometers before the first special stage, I felt like I had a slow puncture, I could not turn in the right turns. I saw the hood get up and I realized that it was a serious problem, we ended up idling, then we tried to put the front shocks in the back to relieve the front. there was no way to continue, "said Neuville when he arrived at the park.

"We showed good performances, unfortunately we did not pay, we were ahead of the middle, anything can happen, we have to accept it, we have to come back stronger and be a champion at the end of the year. It's part of the game. We were out of luck because we did not touch anything during this rally. We put new dampers this morning, it's incomprehensible. I did not make a mistake, it's bad luck, we were the strongest during the weekend, we have to bet on Sunday's Power Stage ", concluded the Belgian at our microphone.

So Neuville while being the most unlucky without driver error, and faster one, will not be in a bad place after this rally.
he was 23 points ahead of Ogier, and now will be 11 points ahead of Tanak.Probably a bit more due to power stage points.
Ogier just fucked up his championship chances.

Yes you usually lead a rally (4th rally this year) by driving badly. If you think Mikkelsen has driven well this year you're deluded.

Given his road position he should've been out of sight on this rally, not trailing his road opening team mate after the first day.

And since when did how many times a driver leads a rally mean anything? After all, Meeke has led rallies...

He has driven worse than top 3. But putting him on same performance level as Evans is retarded.
He led 3 rallies this year (Arg, Sard, Tur) and was 2nd in two (Monte, Swe). Out of these 3times he got technical issues, once a puncture. Only "crash" was in Finland, without retiring.
Evans mostly crashed out by himself from worse places.

As to the road position here quite many drivers had better and Lappi and Tänak had 1-2 cars worse. But yeah Mikkelsen is the one who was driving bad.

Hard to win rallies when you never lead any, some would say impossible.

Well Tänak was only 4th fastest here which is basically his slowest performance of the season (hard to count sweden). Then again you could say he was the one that drove without destroying his car.
Certainly lot of luck as well, but that's rally, sometimes it goes one way sometimes the other.

Personally (without seeing the onboard) I think Ogier seriously messed up here with the off after almost retiring. (also mistake on SSS). He could gain good points on Neuville. Similar story as in Germany where he could get good points but pushed for win and lost points instead. Somehow he is losing his cool .

Ogier retired from driver mistake
Neuvilles suspension collapsed in a not rough stage, while it was a new one fitted this morning. We ve seen that kind of failure at other rallies too.
