What about parking with the bus service, can you go back from stage to the parking area whenever you want at any time (for example leave the stage after 15 cars)?
Thanks
I must say that I don´t understand what you are asking?

There is "public" test on monday in Keuruu "army area" but for who?
WRC2? JWRC?
(I know that privateers are also welcomed and Printsport drivers are attending)

Some stages have a bus line between parking area and stage, at least Pihlajakoski. I don't know how often it runs but if I remember correctly it's non-stop

Oh yeh!
Official programme (Tuulilasi) says non-stop at SS14/20 Pihlajakoski.
So, answer to baffo is YES, you can leave which time you want.

and Raoux did withdraw from last weekends AutoGlym rally, so it´s safe to say #22 and #70 are non starters.

What I´m hoping:
-Toyota to win.
-Citroen to have succesful rally.
What I believe will happen:
-Tänak will win because:
--Ogier is not fast enough
--Neuville will watch what Ogier does, no big risk
--JML has got some mental problems, again
--Meeke will do somekind bad move, maybe car will break this time
-Lappi will be fastest Toyota and Top3
AnttiL
21st July 2017, 09:27
My prediction is that Tänak, Meeke, Paddon and Suninen will make fast stage times but not finish on the podium. I hope all cars will be competitive.
Another prediction is that the fight for the win will be tighter than ever on this season. It will be an epic rally.

Weather forecast looks like we have dry on friday morning and saturday morning, maybe some rain on both afternoons, thursday and sunday. But most likely the roads won't be totally dry even if it doesn't rain during the stage, probably quite damp.

Very hard to predict, just about anything can end up correct. Specially since it's hard to predicts crashes.
My go:
Latvala most likely to win - in Poland he was top3 fast on a rally he was never that good at, in Finland he has very good results from before, lots of testing with Toyota and has become stable this year
Neuville and Tanak will be fighting for 2-3, but Tanak with his wild style can pay dearly if he does a small mistake, Neuville has not done very good here and has been close to major offs in Poland too. Tanak might get some team orders to finish so M-Sport gets manu points.
Ogier will try "stable and safe" 3-4th place after loosing 20-30s on day 1 with road position.
Lappi can get up to podium if others crash, but not top 3 speed (note he has never been near Latvala in same road conditions)
Paddon 4-5th
Citroens are off course huge unknown, for Meeke he surely does have some pressure on, my guess is either he goes for win and crashes or he keeps it on the road in 4-5th place, the second option is surely better for both him and Citroen. Breen most likely to keep it on the road in 6th place.
Sunninen will get a good stagetime or two but probably crash. Hanninen either 8th-ish or big crash.

Hey boys I just got off the phone with a good friend who I build his engine and flywheel and suspension for his nice rally 240 Volvo and I even (yikes!!!:uhoh:) co-drive with a couple of times...He called to say he's arranged a very last minute trip to Finland with his family and negotiate with his wife to get one day off , Saturday, to go watch WRC...
Very last minute, brilliant planning, I know, but the poor boy doesn't have a clue what to do to see anything..
His name is Albert Kun but we call him Alperti Kunkanen because every rally driver should have a Finnish alter-ego.
He's a very nice guy, very good humor and generally fun to hang out with..
Can some of you guys temporarily adopt Al and drag him along?
Just Saturday......
Pelle! You have room maybe? language should not be a problem, he can understand me so he can understand anything...I have even tried to teach him some Finnish swearing (well he did ask what I was saying on Stages about his driving...)
if you can help and have some space please send me a note with your mobil phone number and maybe even say where you think would be smartest for him to be...
Naturally he's flying in to Helsinki so he has to go up North somewhere...Train? Buss? Where?
If you have any brilliant ideas please email me cause I don't know if PM works so well..My email is janvanvurpa "at" gmail 'dot' com
Now since he's a Volvo 240 rally guy sure he wants to see the big heroes but I know he will be extra thrilled to see F-cup or vetomies too...I have been encouraging boys to get to Finland or Sweden and see what "normal" people drive like ---or "Abby Normal" people in typical club level cars..
Please let me know....
Now, your frien Mr Kun (Kunkkanen) need help. I have no room, yet. My plan is to stay over in my own car or maybe I´ll find room, but nothing decided yet, except for I live on hotel Wed-Thu.
His main problem I guess is to go up to Jyväskylä from Helsinki. Renting a small car would surely be best solution. Also haven´t talked to my Finnish friends about it. But if he can be at a predefined place at a predefined hour, I think we could arrange something. That was for Saturday, right?

This is from Halinen, right after the big jump. The chicanes were well visible on the official recce videos. There's about 2-3 per stage, some are made using ternary junctions with a triangle of land in the middle and going around it, some are made like on the sign in the pic, with a hay bale on a side junction.

So this is even before start of the recce and they are watching vids of stages and doing pacenotes.
Then it's 2? runs in recce with video review each evening.
During the rally they then watch the stages for next day each evening, at one point last year I even saw some drivers watching on mobile before the stage.
Also big sections of the stages are run each year.
Given that each day there are about 40-50 unique stage kilometers it's totally possible to remember just about every corner, or at minimum the tricky spots where you really should not go off. (Often also in notes (don't go wide, don't cut....)
This is nothing new, I just put it here since the topic comes up again and again.
Ref.
- Ogier's off in Monte on Saturday saying he knew he could go off there (and people not believing)
- Breen's stage time in Corsica on the short stage without intercom (he lost only a few s)
- multiple "safe" offs by numerous drivers in Poland

so you think that Ogier(or whatever driver) knew that at that corner, he could push more due to have space for error, and he knew that with this overdrive when he went out of road for 20-30 meters it was something calculated.he knew that he can go 30 meters out of road and not 15 meters with this overdrive.

Sorry but your post is not very coherent. I will just restate my view:
To take that specific corner in Monte he knew that the series of corners was in the open field without any deep trenches or drops and without a lot of trees on the outside, which is why he pushed just a bit more (= too much at that point). Nothing about meters here or there, just knowing where it's better to be a bit more on the safe side and where you can risk a bit. (EDIT: Maybe I now get what you ask about, obviously when there is open flat field, it doesn't matter if you go off by 15 or 30 meters, it's the information that it's less risky to go off. For comparison going off in Germany in a place with Hinkelsteins is certainly not "safe", neither is going off in Monte on a stage with 30m drop on the outside of the road)
That's something I am 100% sure off, Ogier himself said it in the finish of the stage. In addition to what I wrote about videos Ogier also comes from the area.
---------------------
Obviously it's not like drivers can remember every rock of every stage (specially on rallies like Sardinia), but remembering the main characteristics of parts of stages+risky spots. Btw. note also the stage reviews with WRC drivers on the official videos, it's not like they are reading it from a piece of paper.
Anyone who has watched 2-3 onboards from the same stage on WRC+ will remember quite a lot of the characteristics next time he watches. Note that we do it for fun over a few tens of minutes in our freetime. Professional rally drivers earn their living from fast driving, watching the stage vids to remember them is one of the easiest preparations they can do and is not limited by any testing limits or funding issues.

no he didn't know anything,it was pure luck he didn't hit a rock a tree,or a spectators car.
Same way they retire when they don't know for a cutten log or a stone at the edge of the road. Not something 5-10-20-30 meters away from road.
Corners are thousands at every rally, its impossible to know at which corner you have the space to go out of road, how the car will go out of road(front, sideways, with back side) or how many meters will travel at grass with sideways, when you make the mistake ''due to space'' ,at which stage you will need to push etc etc etc

Small rock at the edge of the road could get exposed after recce. Clearly visible obstacles are marked, see for example Neuville's rally ending mistake in Monte, he had it marked in the notes.
Ogier totally knew it was open field without big visible obstacles.
Clearly you don't believe drivers can remember most of some 150 kms of stages that they spend 2-3 weeks preparing and watching vids for (as mentioned they drive them at least 2 times and watch on vid at least 3 times, most likely much more, + they are repeated year after year). Well that's just your opinion man ;)
Ohh, forgot, you also don't believe Ogier's own words and ignore the fact that he comes from the area and could have driven the road hundreds of times before. Pure luck is the only reason. Got it.
dimviii
24th July 2017, 21:03
Pure luck is the only reason. Got it.
of course. next time he will hit a stone or a log or whatever,i will ask you how is it possible to don't see it at recce.
or when somebody hit a tree, why he pushed at this corner, and not at a different one with 27 meters empty grass,so he could escape without a scratch.
so many watching videos,so many repeated stages for years, and they still hit rocks, logs, failing to cliffs.
Maybe they didn't notice them at recce.
Driver error? No way!
mknight
24th July 2017, 21:27
If you want to win you have to push (Tanak)... I would add, everywhere. Clearly some places are safer, some are a bit less safe.
All drivers are watching same vids, so they are all likely to push a bit in the "safer" areas. Which is why you see far more off-road excursions in these areas than in the middle of narrow rock/tree ridden sections. But consequences are more serious in the difficult spots. Also on some rallies/stages the consequences are the same no matter where you crash (Corsica, most Finish stages etc.).
Btw. remember Breen in Sardinia hitting the stone. Immediately after the vid came out quite a lot of people here pointed to recce error (jumping right on the rock in the cut), some people said "bad luck". Then came official wrc vid analysis and Citroen team comments that it was indeed recce/driver error due to inexperience at that spot.
Clearly there is no point to continue this discussion (also Rally Finland thread), even though I find it really difficult to believe how little faith you have in the memory of the fastest rally drivers in the world in the age of onboards. There are tons of evidence, statements from drivers, teams, stagetimes (Breen without intercom on Corsica). Sure 10 years ago the situation was different, not now.

I see you really don't believe that Ogier can remember that a corner close to his childhood-home that he has driven in a rally stage probably 10+ times (5 years x 2 runs), that he drove 2 times in recce, watched a vid of 3 times during the previous week AND one that he drove already 2 hours before (was second run of the stage) has an open area on the outside. restricted to spectator areas....depends when you go there, if you go 4 hours before the first car then you can walk on stage too but if you go JUST before the first car then definitely only restricted areas.

We went a few hours before the start last year and were able to walk into the stages where there were no restrictions. You still need to stand in safe places, but it's less crowded and you can find some really nice sections by looking at the road.

It is more variable than that in my limited experience. Last year some areas were relaxed if you were moving before the safety cars passage but on several stages, despite standing in a safe spot at a location recommended in the programme, the marshal had interpreted their instructions as the zone in question was to be kept spectator-free. Only once did I have to hide in the undergrowth (and got bitten to hell!!) to escape the gaze of the lovely Michelle M. I'm going to start a craze for 'We love you Michelle' banners as she always looks so grumpy and clearly needs cheering up!

The spectator guide says that no walking on the stages starting from one hour before start of first car. To be on the safe side would be better to walk even earlier.

My wife and I did the same thing. We hid behind trees when Michelle M and other zero cars were coming through. She saw us at one of the stages and rolled her window down and said "I'm not leaving until you guys cross the street and find a safe spot". We laughed a bit and walked across since we were going to do that anyways, but yes, she is always a bit angry :)
We got bit like crazy too. I've got tons of bug spray this time and will apply every two hours. Hope it keeps the mosquitoes away

Never had anyone restrict me to spectator areas, just walk behind the tape for the first 100-200m and don't draw attention to yourself and you'Il be fine usually, even less than 1 hour before. Sometimes they will try to guide you in one direction but just walk around. Crowded places like the wide road in Shakedown you have to walk in the forest mostly, narrow road at the start more relaxed.

Kris Meeke: being dropped from Citroen squad shows lack of support
Kris Meeke says being dropped for the last World Rally Championship round shows a lack of support from some elements of the Citroen team.
Citroen replaced Meeke with Andreas Mikkelsen for Rally Poland following crashes in the preceding three events.
Meeke returns for Rally Finland this weekend but says the situation means he lacks the confidence to repeat his win there last year.
"It's a frustrating and difficult situation," he said.
"It's certainly not a situation I expected, but it is what it is.
"I'm happy be back in Finland, but it's frustrating to arrive here with the feeling we have now.
"To fight at the front on this rally, you need to arrive with absolutely no doubt in anything around you, to have pure commitment and to do what you want to do and I think it's fair to say that's not the case this year.
"I don't feel in the perfect environment to go and do what I did last year, but that's not to say one kilometre into the shakedown stage, that feeling won't come."
Asked if he felt supported in the Citroen team, Meeke replied: "If you're dropped for an event then there are certain people in the structure that don't give you the support.
"That's fine, I'm here working for Citroen. If they feel I'm not doing a good enough job and they want to do what they done, then that's fine, I'll go with it.
"I'll continue to do what I'm here to do to the best of my ability."
He added that "horrendous" weather for his pre-rally test had not helped.
"We had really, really heavy rain on both days and that made conditions so inconsistent and so difficult to get the feeling in the car," said Meeke.
"Maybe that's what's causing my lack of confidence."
Meeke said he had received "no instruction" from Citroen on how to approach this week's rally and would not drive conservatively.
"I'm not here to come home in the top 10, shake everybody's hand and go home with everybody thinking I'm happy," he said.
Citroen team principal Yves Matton said it was "very good" to have Meeke back.
"He won here last year and we know Kris is always at a high pace on this kind of event," Matton told Autosport.
"There is no target for Kris this week. "It's up to him to do the best he can to bring back the best information for the future."
Asked if he would prefer Meeke to crash out of the lead on Sunday morning or come home fifth, Matton replied: "Both would be bad... I would prefer for him to be leading on Saturday night and then finish on the podium, but I don't say where."

The pressure is on for Breen, in Poland he was clearly the slowest Citroen. Based on last year he should do well here and there seems to be some speed in the C3 based on shakedown, he's also very good at keeping the car on the road.
EDIT: Don't get me wrong, overall he has done the best job of all drivers in Citroen this year, just the recent Poland result might be unsettling.

I hope you're right, would love to see Breen do well here. But my worry is that the pace at the front is going to be mega fast.
I think Tanak, Neuville and (possibly) Meeke were taking the Shakedown lightly and that their true pace will be seen on the stages.
That being said another top 6 result for Craig would do nicely.
On a side note.....Surely though Breen has very little left to prove this year, he's been running consistently well in most rallies and kept the head even when the team are falling down around him. From what I can see he's doing an excellent job in what looks to be a difficult environment.

While it's an indicator, it's always problematic to compare shakedown times when drivers do 4+ runs. Also some drivers like Ogier and Latvala did all runs in the morning and then gave up, while others (Neuville, Meeke++) did 2 then went back 1,5 hours later, so even comparing same run does not mean same conditions. Also Tanak, Evans and Breen are now going to do more runs again, some 2,5 hours after for example Latvala set his best time.
Nevertheless, Citroen does seem to be competetive (judging by both Meeke and Breen's times), which is good. (In Poland Shakedown they were 3 out of last 4 WRCs, with Breen the last one)

True, and some try different settings or save tyres, some go flat out. And after two runs you start learning the stage, but the first two runs are more like actual rallying.

Must be something else. Test vids from Meeke's test showed the car was neutral to understeering out of slow corners (just like Mikkelsen's in Poland), not massive oversteer as before with the rear-torque bias.

to be honest the "chikane" at the second part of the video looks like a second class autoslalom event...not the world championship...as mknight already wrote, first a hayball, than the cone and than nothing....this is nonsense!

Hi everyone,
I promised you a bit more of an update before the start of Rally Finland, so here goes!
We started shakedown this morning not so confident after our test. As I said earlier in the week, conditions on that pre-event test were not so consistent, so it had been hard to play around with settings on the C3 WRC.
So this morning we started quite conservatively and then changed quite a lot of things on every run. It was like a proper test today, in fact, with consistent conditions. And yes, the C3 got better and better. It was nice to sneak in a fastest time at the end too, of course.
However, that doesn’t necessarily set the course for the rally. To explore the road here in Finland, especially stages that are new to me, or reversed from last year, you need complete commitment and confidence. It remains to be seen whether we have that feeling when we get into the first stage tomorrow morning.
Hopefully it’s there but I can’t guarantee it at the moment. We’ll just try to get through the street stage tonight, have a clean run and then we’ll see what the story is tomorrow morning.
Thanks as always for your support,

So, started the day with a visit to "Neuville's corner" in SD. Why have they ruined the corner with some bales and fence? Even Ogier thought fuck it and went on the inside. That corner is very tricky for some but I guess it would've been too fun so they had to bring out the fun police as stated some posts above.
Will visit Urria and Laukaa tomorrow so hoping for some nice action there.

The drivers that drive over the yumps and have the front of the car lift a lot.
Are they not slowing enough before the jump?
Can they damage the front of the car by slamming it when landing?
Is there something not optimal with their suspension settings before takeoff? (Paddon said in the past the suspension settings are tuned for the most frequent type of corners and the many small jumps and not the big jumps.)

Looking at the split list there does seem to be some cleaning effect. But not more than some 0.2s/km.
In hindsight Lappi and Sunninen's pace is not so surprising.
Lappi does not have to prove his speed after Sardinia, so he should take it a bit safer (also considering retirement early in Poland). Suninen on the other hand still has things to prove as he only shined in the uneven conditions on Friday afternoon in Poland, rest was good but not epic.
EDIT: Neuville 10th after 2nd stage, not going to be happy.

Is Ogier starting to play mind-games.... he knows Neuville is down after first morning stage.. and he knows they will tell him what he said. Could be a real problem yes, but he was faster than Latvala from the split to the end.
Neuville didn't listen a rally radio while he driving :) what mind-games?

Neuville comes to the end and gets time similar to Ogier... and gets told by Molly Pettit that Ogier has problems and is still about as fast as him.
Juho out of pace at SS3. Some up and down for him. +4.5 at 1st split
Same situation for Meeke as for Hanninen
1st sector +4.3 and +4.5
2nd sector +1.0 and +0.1

Well the main story so far has to be Neuville doing 2 12th times. Second last WRC just ahead of Sordo.
Hard to say if Sunninen and Lappi get some advantage from road position being 10 cars later than Latvala, we'll see on second pass.

Hard to say if Sunninen and Lappi get some advantage from road position being 10 cars later than Latvala, we'll see on second pass. There's probably a tiny bit of road cleaning in certain points of the stages in the morning. In the afternoon I reckon there will be a slight disadvantage running further back but could be wrong. Pretty miniscule either way though. I'm really impressed by the two young Finns.
Also if Ogier does have a problem and isn't bluffing, and Neuville continues so poorly, it'd be brilliant for the championship if Jari and Tanak get top 2.
