Hi everyone,

I am opening this thread about Deustchland rally 2016, for some help with the stages and spots.

I will go for the first time to see this rallye, and I would like to get some recommendations about good spots and the most famous spots. I like "flat out" zones, how we can see in the following video:

If You could recommend some places to see, I would appreciate.

Thank you!

Hello hari!

Thank you very much for your help. Do you think that Mosellan stage keep interesting in the reverse direction? There is some spots that you could recommend in this stage?

In saturday, could be possible to see Arena Panzerplate and Panzerplate Lang in the same place, because Arena Panzerplate has a point very near to Panzerplate Lang. Where is the famous jump in Panzerplate Lang?

If you or someone could indicate more interesting spots would be great help for me. Is the first time I will go to deutschland rally and would like to enjoy at maximum!

Once again, Thank You!

Moselland is also in this years direction very nice stage. Lots of nice places in the vineyards above Piesport.

Gina Jump at Panzerplatte:
https://www.google.at/maps/place/49%C2%B038'43.1%22N+7%C2%B020'00.6%22E/@49.645318,7.3313233,718m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x0!8m2!3d49.64531 8!4d7.333512

Arena Panzerplatte and Panzerplatte Lang: Its possible to watch both stages from places close to another, the stages even share some crossings. But these are probably not so spectacular places (lots of junctions).

Mintexmemory

Gina jump is probably the most over-hyped and disappointing jump in the whole calendar. Go for a Panzerplatte location that offers greater car viewing time.

As always, quantity does not mean quality:) and the best I think would be see less stages. I am thinking to make a recce of thess stages on the days before the rally.

Surely, the stages to see would be Moselland on friday, panzerplate lang on saturday and Drhontal on sunday.

Thank You for your advices.

There are difficulties with panzerplatte lang in that spectators are discouraged from being there - indeed (and correct me if I'm wrong other forum members) some are 'eingang verboten' military zones. I will sift through my maps and files in the next week and post some advice.

The best thing to do is keep checking on the official website for when the programmes become available. They will mail them out abroad and then you'll have all the maps and spectator zones. Should give you plenty of time or organise the trip.

Do you think that would be easy to reach the spot walking early by morning, for example, two hours before of the beggining? My intention is to leave the car on the L155 road (near of the L156 crossroad) and walk a little on the stage. What You think?

Yes, always plenty of people there.
From L155 it is quite uphill, so maybe easier to to access from North via L157 and then walk down the hill.

I don't either. VW is not optimized for tarmac, it's more a gravel car. It's just so powerful it has dominated tarmac events in the past years. I think the winner chances are 75% Sordo, 20% Neuville and 5% someone else.

Polo is very much based on Fabia S2000 (the suspension scheme aside of different damper supplier is basically same) and that one was arguably the best asphalt car at least for rough asphalts in central Europe. I would say that it's better to say that VW drivers prefer gravel (including Ogier) than that the car isn't so good on asphalt.

There are only two rallycars in the world using same position of dampers - Fabia S2000 and Polo WRC. Is that an accident when VW was using Fabia S2000 as a benchmark and basis in the development? Even Willi Rampf, technical director of VW Motorsport, said the suespension mounting points of both cars are same (the interview was posted here: http://www.motorsportforums.com/showthread.php?24898-VW-News-2012-amp-WRC-2013&p=919601&viewfull=1#post919601 but sadly the host website is gone).

Both platforms are near identical. The difference is that stock PQ24 is 2WD only while PQ25 is PQ24 per default addopted for 4WD. For WRC/S2000 suspension mounting points it's irrelevant anyway.

Yep, that´s not a secret. The only person surprised by that fact is danon. We don´t blame VW from anything. it is logical process. I would do it same way having such possibilities. I would copy what can be copied and improve what can be improved. On the other hand I think VW WRC engineers shared a little bit of their "magic" when Skoda was building R5 car. Just a few infos, because WRC and R5 are different cars. (f.e. SACHS dampers)

Ogier has the best starting position now, and I'm sure he'll try to drag as much dirt onto the road as possible. Unless the Polo gives up or a very unlikely error occurs on his part, he's the clear favorite.

Agree. Ogier is fastest driver in WRC on tarmac and has the best starting position. Sordo and Neuville can fight for the podium, but I don't how narrow roads and tight hairpins will suit 4-door i20.

The "move" is mostly the location of the servicepark, headquarter, shakedown and ceremonial start - the stages will not be much different than now.

"New" servicepark 2017 at Bostalsee will be located where it has already been until it moved to its current location in Trier (2007).

Ogier is very likely to make errors on tarmac. Apart from Monte, because that's where he comes from and thus he knows those roads. Here's some flashback from last year:
Germany: nothing
Corsica: puncture
Spain: crash

And 2014:
Germany: twice out
Alsace: something there as well, don't remember what
Spain: nothing

And this year in Monte he collected some bodywork damage after slightly taking contact with a bridge.

Loeb's longest gap between wins was 26 weeks or 182 days from Monte Carlo to Germany 2003.
If Ogier wins Rally Germany on August 21st it will be a gap of 27 weeks or 189 days since Sweden.

2003 means nothing, he was a kid then. Start counting from the time he first became Champion. Also it would be more fair to count events because each year the gap between events varies for example if you had the summer holiday gap between the events you have not won that would increase the period by far.

"2003 means nothing"
Interesting to reflect on what a "means nothing" year was like. In 2003 Loeb & Sainz were tied on points and leading the championship by one point going into the final round. Solberg won final round to win championship by a solitary 1 point over Loeb. In my mind 2003 year was far from nothing, it was really something. Guess we all see things differently.

You have to translate it from his language to the real meaning.
With "means nothing" he wanted to say that in a discussion about the longest period of events without winning a rally, taking the 2003 in account for Loeb is not useful for the sake of the argument since he was at the beginning of his career and that gap was for sure higher (the same goes for Ogier). If we want to compare the two sebastien in terms of period of non-wins we should start from the first year they become champions and reach the maturity.

KiwiWRCfan

If we start from 2005 when Loeb already had his first world title then his longest gaps between wins was in 2009. He won Argentina on 26 April then did not win again until Catalunya Rally on October 4th. There were 5 events between Argentina & Catalunya.
As many people have said many times before it is not possible to compare different eras. In 2009 there were only 2 manufacturers involved.

I'm not a big Max fan either but the timing just doesn't make sense. He's five points off the lead in the championship with two rounds to go. He won the last round and secured two R5 outings for next year.

All that aside, IMO there's no way he should even have been in DDFT this year. Running three consecutive seasons in an invitation-only junior series is overkill.

Hi guys. I come in Trier on Saturday. Can you advise where can I stop on Sunday, the stage to watch? I'd like to watch Dhrontal. Where can the nearest approach to the car? Danke :-)

I suppose you are new to rallying so I would recommend an easy access place. For Dhrontal, an easy access place with multiple hairpins to watch is a place called Galeria Dhrontal. From Trier, head first towards Neumagen-Dhron, continue road 53 to Niederemmel. Follow blue signs to the stage and later on signs to parking area P2/ spectating area Z2. It's a field park so you need some ride height in your car.

You can take a look on unofficial maps from rally-maps.com.

Hi guys. I come in Trier on Saturday. Can you advise where can I stop on Sunday, the stage to watch? I'd like to watch Dhrontal. Where can the nearest approach to the car? Danke :-)

My advice is since you arrive on Saturday go and recce the stage you want to see for sunday, find a spot that you like and see if it is close to an access road so you can park and walk there. The place you chose might be a disappointment in the end but if you do this on every rally, you will then find what you like in the end, and also understand the sport far better.

Do not be a pleb and just visit a random spot recommend in the guide.

Both stages are almost the same as last year. If you don't have time to recce, watch the onboards from last year (normal you can find them on rallyekarte.de).

Weather:

Today morning should be OK, nice wetaher, 20..22 degrees, some rain clouds but with no major rain, just some raindrops.

Friday:
Tonight, heavy tuhnderstorm is expected on SS1 and SS2 but temperature will be still quite high, might reach over 25, morning pass might be damp in placesm good for Ogier road position
Afternoon should be mostly without rain as well, some showers here and there, can be predicted only a few hours before stages.

Saturday:
Temperature drops to 20..22 degrees, might be some rain risk in the afternoon, however, very low

Sudnay:
Temperature drops even further +16..+19, minimal rain risk.

So, tonight, between 21..midnight might be some proper rain in most of the places ,after that, just a small showers here and there.

Monte is very cold so you cant see the real difference between a good and an average tyre. You will see at hot weather like Spain/Corsica the real difference.

Last year Kopecký was on a completely different level than the others in RC2 and won by over 4 minutes over Camilli. Can he recover from the puncture this time?

Rally Power
19th August 2016, 13:04
I imagine Mr. Wilson will send Camilli to “WRC2 rehab” next year. It has been working fine for Evans.

Nice to see the 208 R5 finally showing some speed. RC3/RC4 youngsters fight for best 2wd looks promissing.

Yep. Like usually, great onboards, nice drones and good editing but, and it has been repeatedly mentioned here, the ground cameras are usually placed in the worst possible spots. They really must improve that.

"I think this is a good start to the rally. I almost go head-to-tail in the first special stage but the weather was not so bad in the end. From the perspective of the car, it could be better but we are working. If the car was perfectly set, we would be ahead I think. the management is good so far, "detailed Thierry Neuville microphone of our colleague Olivier Gaspard RTBF just after the first two stages of the day .

Hope fo Camilli a better day tomorrow; without pressure of the result have to find some rithm and stamp so good times; pity because after Italy i was expecting for another step up of his performances instead arrived before the mistake in poland when stage was already finished, after the big crash of finland and now this nightmare stage in his favourite surface.
