Gutted for Eric. His interview afterwards is of a man sturggling with his own head. Maybe the Finland crash? His splits where the slowest WRC car by quite some margin before the off. Hope he now has 2 days to get back up to speed.

6th in RC2, 5th in WRC2 @ +1:38,5 after SS4. The two drivers ahead seem to be an easy target. The fastest trio will be hard to catch but Kopecký's traditionally strongest stages are yet to come tomorrow.

An error in a rally like this is more than forgivable to a rookie. I think maybe he is too much in a hurry to show someething. Maybe another year in WRC2 would not have been that bad for him. On the other hand a lot of driver have to impress team principals in more difficult circumstances and without two years deals.

Why isn't it working?! Im so infuriated when everyone jumps to bash those young guys on their first full year and then everyone is so complacent on the old dogs a.k.a Latvala, who for more than 10 years crashed an unbelievable amount of cars and have brought no interest at all for the big championship fight.

Saying that it isn't working out is hardly "bashing"; but, 4 retirements in 8 rallies isn't exactly "working", either.

Whats happening with Paddon lately... some were saying he was the next world champion, but he's not showing it for months now ?
He won Argentina, bad Portugal and Sardegna (small mistakes with unlucky big consequences), 3rd in Poland, 5th but only 7s off the podium in Finland, currently 4th in championship behind the VWs... don't forget he said himself before the season that 2016 is still a learning year rather than a realistic championship attempt.
His pace on splits looks pretty good this weekend, the time loss has come from a few mistakes with spins and puncture.
Don't forget his lack of tarmac experience - he has done less than 10 tarmac rallies in his entire rally career, and I think only 4 in a WRC car.

Actually, the forum has been surprisingly tolerant and even supportive towards Camilli. At the beginning there was some criticism, mostly about Wilson’s decision to replace Evans, but after a while the general opinion recognized the French abilities and appreciated his learning efforts through the season.
This said, perhaps the most interesting question about Camilli’s path it’s really on Wilson’s bold choice. Can this fast way of raising to the top a driver with so little experience (notably on gravel) payoff? Only time will tell, but for now one can fairly say it’s not the easiest one.

Sadly, a puncture took Suarez away from the WRC2 fight, still nice times for the 208 R5 (according to the spanish press, he’s using a brand new car but the team decided not to install the Evo kit. All DS’s using it).
Tempestini is making another great rally and managed to lead the 2wd field, with Griebel, Koci and the Italians 208’s quite close.

Yea, rally is dangerus and will always be so.
I dont agree that they need to bring down the speed but anyway a discussion is not a wrong way to go.
But Germany is far from Finland, Sweden etc..
But is the car from 2017 so much different from the 08-10 cars?

They go at same speed at Germany and at Finland, but acceleration and direction change is more faster on tarmac. But directly it won't affect to top speed too much

Hoping for a bit more news on his former co-driver. If it's 'only' a broken leg then that can be considered good news I guess. Bones heal, rally cars can be re-built and all that. Wouldn't be surprised at all if they've hit a hinkelstein.

I don't think he's a tourist either. And to be honest I think more often then not he is on the same level as Ostberg pace-wise - as long as he can keep it on the road. For sure Mads is more consistent - but look at the massive difference in WRC car experience between the two guys.

Must've been a huge negative g stop, hence the internal injuries. :(
The human body is very interesting thing. Some organs are critically damaged by acceleration, some by movement, some only by deformation. For most of the internal organs the critical criterion is movement inside the body hence the 6-points wide seat belts. Acceleration is critical mainly for the brain and the deformation mainly for legs, hands and spine. The heavy head is now kept on place by HANS but in the same time the restrained head sufferes a lot more from acceleration of the brain. That's why modern helmets intended for use with HANS have special internal structure to soften the acceleration. Normally a healthy person can survive around 100 g for some milliseconds but common g-meters can't measure such short peaks. Only sppecial accelerometers used in crash tests are able to do so. That's why the numbers often presented on public are pure BS such as " he survived huge 20g". I would estimate that You can achieve a lot over 20g by a football header :)

I wonder why they didn't opt for a space frame instead of classic bodyshell when the cars are anyway moving farther from the stock ones. It would make things easier for the teams and it would allow better optimalization of the whole package even in terms of safety.

I wonder why they didn't opt for a space frame instead of classic bodyshell when the cars are anyway moving farther from the stock ones. It would make things easier for the teams and it would allow better optimalization of the whole package even in terms of safety.
Have there been any safety upgrades at all announced for the 2017 cars? Normally that is built into all new regulations - or certainly should be.

Skimmed off the hinklesteins and into a tree. No way the onboard camera was standing up to that impact.
video is stopped after the crash at hinkelsteins.Only if they upload some other video from outside from spectators we will see what happened.

from the onboard doesn't seem they were any spectators around. maybe a helicopter view.

Hinkelsteins only slowed it don a bit but not much. Anyway it must be serious speed misjudgement in that corner, perhaps pacenote was too optimistic.

Okay dude. I know you know what a tree looks like so I won't patronize you.
A couple of bits from tonight's TV coverage - did anyone see how low that heli was getting!!! About as low as I've ever seen in the WRC. Also - is it me or is the WRC2 coverage getting even shorter!?

just saw the Day 2 highlights on WRC+, why is John Desbrough still there? and is it just me or the coverage of each rally this year is even worse than last year? (and obviously the year(s) that's gone before). and why are they showing me just hairpins? what happened to the jumps (also the jump in panzerplatte where there's a big redbull banner- http://sport-heute.ch/up/5/3255_5.jpg ,this jump)

i really dont understant your post.Did i said that i dont know whats a tree?
if you saw any hit with a tree tell me where to stop the video to watch it.
Car hits 5-6 hintelsteins at very high speed, and thats enough to through out the engineand all the front crossmember. If this major damage was from a tree the engine hood wouldnt be at its place.

Believe me if it "hits" only 1 is enough for total damage. It just skimmed off them.

Wow, that was a huge impact. Good to hear they’re ok, despite the injuries. Hope they get a good recovery and be back as soon as possible.

You don't see the tree because the camera cuts out at the point of the massive impact. The hinkelsteins aren't what rips the engine from the front of the car. It seems pretty clear cut - I don't really see the confusion?

Lefebvre didn't get caught by the stone guards along the road rolling the car over... that could have ended up even worse. The stones slowed him down prior to collision thanks to the higher speed.

The beginning of the crash is shown in the highlights https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Wv-v9l3X18
The onboard gives the idea the car hit the stones (or whatever they’re called) with the left rear wheel and marks on the grass, seen on the aerial after crash view, indicate it went off the road, eventually crashing into the tree on a frontal impact.
Lefebvre accident video https://www.facebook.com/SPORT1Motorsport/videos/1086993691386388/?hc_ref=NEWSFEED
Considering the speed and the tree size, it could be much worse if it was a lateral impact.
Btw, tomorrow must be interesting to follow: 2nd overall fight’s still open, just like on WRC2 and WRC3. Lappi and Tempestini have been doing a great job (and also Pryce on DMC).

dimviii, Lefebrve defenetly hit something after that moment with hinkelsteins. They rip off left suspention and he slide into a left ditch. You don't see it on video but on video we saw that after kissing a stones engine still with car. If engine was rip off at that moment with hinkelstiens - they fly in this direction after that point, but he didn't. And on heli-video oil trail from engine clearly shows direction from the point where engine was ripped off the car.

PS I pick this view to show some tyres slide near trees, 2 or 3 seconds earlier oil trail - more visible

He had many problems (clipped kerb, steering, handbrake) but thats just 'moaning' isnt it. He's still ahead of Paddon but no-one says anything about him.
Because its only Paddons 8th Tarmac event ever (in any car) vs Mads been driving in the WRC for many years.

So are we going to hear Ogier complain that the he is too far back and getting a dirty road today?
