Looking forward to see the Rally Guide. Coming to Finland for the 3rd time (after 2012 and 2014). Hoping for an itinerary similar to the one of 2014, I don't think it can be much better than that. :)

what happened to the Oil of Neste Oil Rally Finland?

Just change of direction of company Neste, and the name of the rally followed. Think the brand dont want to be connected to oil, because they processing eco-diesel products.

Please, drop the acronym NRF. NORF was already too bad. Rally Finland it is.
What we know SS Harju will be run on Thursday and Friday. Most likely it'll be the only stage on Thursday. Also news about a new (but old) stage in Äänekoski, North of Jyväskylä, on Friday are solid. Of course other rumours too, but let's just wait one more week and then we'll know for sure. I'm hopeful and of course already waiting!

I'd say zero access roads for SS Lempää and perhaps one for SS Oittila. Also no access roads for SS Saalahti.
In general I'm very excited about the route and schedule. A lot to study before the event. Also 43% new for drivers. Should favour drivers like Paddon. Also I like the early mornings. Potentially possible to do 9-10 stages in the rally.

This is actually now more of an original version of Ouninpohja. Like Rallyper said, previous time they run the stage partly in this 2016 direction was in 2008, but then it was the small road Pitkäjärventie and only from Kakaristo to halfway Okskulmantie and they took a junction right to a smaller road (which again was used in 2014 the opposite direction). I think the actual Ouninpohjantie (with Yellow House jump) has not been run in this direction since mid 90s. Up until mid 90s it was mostly used in this direction, start of the stage being in Kakaristo junction. There were some years they run it from Hämepohja to Kakaristo (the 2000 format) in the historic year, like the year Timo Mäkinen had the bonnet of his Mini up.
And for sure Ouninpohja in this direction offers a great variety of different spectating points compared to opposite direction. Still the 150+ jumps and overcrests remain... It's also notable that Ouninpohja will be the first stage of the day, 1st run before 8AM. You have to be fully woken up not to lose 15 seconds - or the whole rally.

Sounds like a well-known place on the small road. Huttunen had an off there last year - or at least parts of his car were there after the rally.

Ok. I know that place at the end of the stage. Saw CMR there in 2001 and after that I thought no one could be as crazy as him, which later became more than true. But on your vid it was JML, right. Crazy as well. :)

From early June last year. White Corolla GT driver got hurt and required an ambulance.
Most propably you can't get this good view on safety standards of WRC event + it'll be hugely crowded. But they'll fly. They'll fly before that jump many times, but this... different. Maybe worth for waking up at 3AM...

Woow, surpised by the news!!
I was not expecting any more outing by Ligato.
In my opinion, this is not the best round to entry, with no rythm with WRC cars (he is running a MaxiRallly, not even R5 speed), and with years since not doign it (10 years at least).
But on the other hand, surely he found the way ($$$) and giving he is more close to the end of his carreer than any other thing, he must be doing for the fun of it.
He will try to go fast, but for sure he will have fun.
Good for Ligato!!!
Simmi
6th June 2016, 19:43
Good news for Ligato. I'd assume (more like hope) that indicates that Citroen will be there in that semi-works capacity - and it's not just rent-a-ride like Argentina. I think we all really want to see Meeke do Finland. Let's see what the entry is like. Hopefully Ligato takes the car destined for Al Qassimi and not Meeke/Lefebvre/Breen.

You can buy rally passes at any Neste gas station on your way to Jyväskylä. It's a pass, to hang around your neck, difficult to email. I think you can't buy them at your hotel, but any Neste station and service park should do ok.

19 year old Juuso Nordgren won AKK's Star of the Future prize drive for Rally Finland. He will be entered for the event in WRC3 DS3 R3T.
This prize was awarded to under 25 year old drivers doing best in Finnish Championship in R2 cars after 4/6 events. Best three were chosen to selection after Saturday's event. Nordgren, as last season's junior champion and known fast driver, were the fan favourite and obvious choice anyway. He will now step into the path of Teemu Suninen ja Jari Huttunen, the previous two Stars of the Future. Hopefully Juuso will grab this enourmous chance!

Oi oi oi that will be a FAST stage that's for sure..
I wonder how they arranged such beautiful weather?
(and i wonder how people who live on these roads resist the urge to go "maximum attack" on these roads?..I have a scenario in my head that Pekka and Erja arrive home from shopping 40km away, and when they are unloading groceries Erja discovers that Pekka "forgot" to get kex or godis so Pekka "No problem, I'll drive back and get some"..........1 Hour later Pekka is back, and sweating and smiling with stupid grin... Erja has discovered that Pekka forgot coffee "Oi va dum! I'm sooooo forgetful...Don't worry I'll be right back!"

It gives me great warmth to think about the reactions of Rally Finland visitors seeing Vetomies (loosely translates into bad ass, fast, braveheart, no fear rally driver) crews such as Hirvonen, Hiipakka and Lario in their powerful BMWs pass by in our gravel rollercoasters. Lario is always spectacular and his 400+hp BMW sounds simply... No words. Well, let me phrase it like this: If you don't get excited from that sound, you are not alive.

Hayden Paddon will enter Autoglym Ralli in Kangasala on July 16th as a part of Hyundai's PETs. That rally resembles a lot of WRC leg, four stages driven twice, over 100 competetive kilometres. Stages are naturally been used in 1000 Lakes in the past. Also a few other Rally Finland starters in Autoglym Ralli such as Teemu Suninen and OC Veiby.

My "info" told me that Hyundai will be driving with 2017 car... But we will see what happens :) Usually teams dont (or atleast nowadays) start their PET session with smaller rally.. In late -90´s and early 2000 it was usual here in Finland that some teams drove a small rally after their test session to Jyväskylä.

The green battle wagon?
Now I need advice, knowing nothing about Finnish roads as a NRF virgin!
On Friday is it possible to do more than 4 stages comfortably?
On Saturday we want to maximise our Ouninpoha experience but which stage is best / easiest to get to after the WRC cars have had their second Pass
Advice or good spots to head for gratefully received!!
Still a place in our car and cabin going for a reasonable price if someone is excited by what looks like a fantastic entry list!

Friday is a long day and depending on how you want to spectate, four stages should be possible (though, for example between Horkka and Äänekoski it is a bit of driving). Fifth could be the city stage. If you only want to do WRC crews, you could do more. As for what after Ouninpohja 2, I'd say only Saalahti is possible. Depending on where you are located in Ouninpohja, of course. Popular places like Yellow House are behind small forest roads and takes more time to exit than some other parts of Ouninpohja. But two runs of Ouninpohja with Vetomies in the middle + SS Saalahti should be possible.

Worked on my Friday Itinerary (no stranger to long days, Sardinia last year had a 21 hour day!)
Mokkipera
Surkee
Aanekoski
Jukojarvi
Harju
If you follow the route on rally-maps.com we intend to reach Mokkipera via the road that joins the stage at 6.83km from the start (direction Nyrola). Does anyone know of good spectator point near there?
Same question for Surkee - approaching stage via road that joins at 5.2km from start.
Now the planning is underway I'm getting really excited (second childhood approaching maybe?!)

I don't have much local knowledge but I would say if you find yourself in a good place on Jukojarvi I would not sacrifice that to dash over to Harju. Likely by the time you get there the place will be packed out. There are thousands of people in that stage and no one is really seeing all that much. I got there fairly close to first car two years ago and ran around the whole place trying to find a decent view. It's much better on TV.

Doesn't look like there were any last minute surprises. Certainly not that have been published. Pedder and Folb were late additions yesterday afternoon (I was keeping a fairly close eye on it).
I'm not sure this can be claimed as the official list just yet - even though it most likely is?

It's official in terms that it's been updated by the organisers. First draft of the entry list will be published on Friday and I think the last minute surprises will be there if they come.
Sorry to say that one part of WRC history will be cut this year. After participating 1000 Lakes/Rally Finland for 30 consecutive years (once as a co-driver), Fabrizio de Sanctis will not start the event this year. However, I believe his record will hold for a long, long time.

Shakedown starts at 8.00 and normally it gets quiet with WRC crews before midday. Of course there are non-priority drivers for longer period. Even if you'd stay at the shakedown longer, visit service park, eat up, you have time to find a place for SS1.
Your second questions is much more complicated. Best option is to study: old videos, old stories, old maps and see how they meet your preferences. Good places are all over the place. Some places just are better than others.

Wrc2.. Suninen said factory boys had better top speed and more power in engine. So Lappi and Tideman have change to win. What can evans do?
It will be very interesting. Some big statements to be made in Finland. Lappi really showed Tidemand the way last year, so if the roles are reversed this time around that would be massive for Pontus.
I think one of one the Fabia guys will come a cropper on leg one. I think the fight will be that intense. I think Evans will just be slightly further back as he was in Poland. But let's see!

Last year Tidemand was also slower than Lappi in Poland, but this year that was not the case so I expect them to be close in Finland.

According to Kai Tarkiainen (Clerk of the Course) Henning is changing his car...

Mostly dry until Friday evening, since then there is a high chanche of rainshowers, temperature around +20..+23 during the days and +16..+20 during the nights, nearly no wind until Sunday.
In general: Saturday will be most likely relatively wet due to rainshowers here and there, Friday most likely dry and Sunday almost dry. I assume it (forecats) to change a lot. usually in a better direction (less rain, more sun :))
