Breen is too slow trough this one, he has to be carefull, Neuville only 6,6 behind now. Really pitty for Tanak, he did a great rally, but those things can happen when you push to the maximum.

Sun 10:01 - SS22: WRC2 Solberg
His Fiesta R5 has lost power steering. 'It happened in the first corner. Very bad. I can't fix it. I'll try to get through. That's all I can do." He drops a minute to the class leaders but holds sixth place for now.

Sorry about Tänak, but he has a positive trend. He is definitely getting more consistent.

Mr Meeke as you call him is definitely doing a great job, but he is also in a completely different event than the guys that have been running out on front. Every guy, except Mikkelsen in Poland, that has won a gravel event this year have come from a late starting position, and that is a sign of things getting very even driving wise, and also that sweeping or cleaning pays a big part.

Next year this will kind of sort it self out (no matter what kind of solution for starting order that is chosen, because as soon as you climb in the championship you will struggle more).

I won't take anything away from Craig Breen, he has done a massive job this weekend, but being that far in front of a charging Andreas Mikkelsen in a VW has a lot to do with the surface they are rallying on. But this is rally :)

I took some photos of the road yesterday on Pajala before Meeke came. (Dont know if I will be successful with my attachments ;) )
Before the first car (Andreas), the road had a top coat of loose gravel evenly spread out. Before Meeke it was a very clear line on the much more abrasive underlay.
I took a very unofficial friction test (standing with wight on one foot and trying to turn it, registration how much force was acquired). On the loose it was very easy to turn my foot (good gripping tracking sneaker sole), on the line that the late starters drive on it was almost impossible.

It still takes a lot to drive Ouninpohja the way Meeke did yesterday, and I rate him as one of the absolute favourites for the championship next year, so this is in no means trying to take anything away from him, but we off course must also recognise that the worlds number one has won zero gravel events this year, and that is not due to the lack of talent.

Weather, road conditions, differences in tires, machinery, set up, preparation and driving, all these things make rallying extremely difficult, and incredibly both interesting and exciting - and wouldn't have it any other way :)

Subaru stopped because of fire, but also both crew members were transported by helicopter to hospital with their backs injured. Looks like it won't be that bad.

Tidemand was slower than Kalle Rovanperra in Estonia or Latvia where he was testing for Finland. It may just be that these superfast events don't suit him that much and he needs more time to get used to them.

I think you are 100% right. Not the finnish roads with many jumps/crests. He is fast in Poland, on asphalt and other gravel events but have never been really fast in Finland. It has to be a reason ofc.
He and Lappi is very similar in stage times on other rallyes.

Some thought heading to the power stage:

I am positively surprised by Kris Meeke approach this year. The power of a three year contract is huge. This should make team principals think... He is very confident and strong. I watched his onboard last year and compared to today. They seem two different drivers. Also Nagle is different, last year he was always saying to Kris words like: "watch this" "be careful on this one". This year I never heard him saying such things.

The real surprise is Breen, really, how can he be up there? Hat off and I hope he can get a well deserved podium place.

Ott Tanak, we all feel for him because of rally Poland but let me say this guy still has the very same problem from the beginning of his career, and always blaming bad faith, tires, cars, the stars in the sky doesn't help.

Hyundai i20 is clearly nowhere in this rally. Suspensions? Less grip than others? Luckily we are enjoying a nice inhouse battle all the rally long between two guys who doesn't like each other. Very nice.

Actually if you watch Ouninpohja you will see quite a few warnings from Nagle, but also you will see how controlled Meeke's drive is. Anyhow whatever the outcome, Ogier is going to enjoy the next few rallies as all 3 (and two thirds of them) are on tarmac so.. a lot of drivers will be feeling like a fish out of sea. Hyundai's NG i20 hopefully will take the fight to the VW's in Germany with both previous winners Thierry & Sordo driving them.

Sun 12:08 - SS24 Start order
A few changes to the running order to suit the TV schedule. Here's how the leaders will tackle it, starting with the top three in WRC 2. 1. Tidemand, 2. Suninen, 3. Lappi, 4. Al Qassimi, 5. Ogier, 6. Abbring, 7. Mikkelsen, 8. Ostberg, 9. Paddon, 10. Neuville, 11. Breen, 12. Latvala, 13. Meeke

He has changed. Even if we'd take your assumption that he still has the same old problem. With that problem, he would had been in the forest on day one but he has been going at it for the entire rally. There have been three drives really driving it - Meeke, Latvala and Tänak. Can't say about Ogier as we really don't know where he would had been. The rest have just been losing time to those three.

Besides, every driver blames different things. Some blame the car all the time, another the running order and I'm sure someone blames N.O.T the self-proclaimed god.

Also another thing is that we really do not know how fast Wilson's VW beater really is. M-Sport squad really isn't giving a good benchmark with their Michelins.

Imagine that-who would have thought at the beginning of 2016 that on 31st of July same year Meeke would have same number of victories as the mighty, over-talented, unbeatable Mr.Ogier???? And not just that harsh fact-Meeke drove just selected races....wow, that should be a science fiction in January, don't you think so?
So, great day for Citroën, they have made my weekend perfect.
I know that Ogier will be pissed as hell and will try to destroy other guys in Germany(I predict a convincing victory 4him) but at the moment looks like he will have a bitter holiday.

Vetomies means "oldschoolrallyman" who has big balls. quite hard to translate ;) maybe some finnish men can translate it better than me.

Yes it’s difficult to translate. Maybe also something like hard pushing men although push is the opposite to “veto” which refers more to pull.

The world “veto” is also used to describe the wheel drive (vetotapa).
Four-wheel drive = neliveto, front wheel drive = etuveto etc.

If a man have to explain it you must be a young boy or a girl / woman.:)

It's a turning point for Ogier.
He went through a lot of stuff lately that shook him up - in a positive way. It takes time to wake up to the reality he is a father.
His life priority took a different turn overnight.
The good news is that this euphoric feeling fades away in time, same as falling in love and life goes on as usual and the desire for win gets back.

This guy is preparing to strike back!!!

I feel it in the air on that pic....

Great to have Meeke on top of podium again. He played the running order perfectly. Fastest WRC average time ever as well. Amazing, but almost scary to think what next year's cars will be capable of.
Very surprised to see Breen on the podium, I didn't think he had that speed in him, happy to be proven wrong.

Another last minute disappointment for Tanak. No doubt his speed is there, he just needs a little of bit of luck to carry him through. It will come.

Plus the top WRC2 guys were amazing, Lappi, Suninen, Evans, Tidemand etc. The next batch of WRC stars are raising to the top.

Also thanks to all who have seemed to watched the whole rally through camera viewfinders, the photos and YouTube videos are fantastic. Cheers!

When Mikkelsen was opening road, he was immediately 0.2-0.3 sec/km slower than he was when Ogier opened the road.
So if you look at rally results you can say that Ogier still has the winning speed. In every rally his loss is smaller than 0,3 sec/km.
And that is when you have to be second on road. Immagine what is the difference when you start 6 or 7 place.

Next year when the rules change, Ogier is back winning 7-8 rounds :)

No im not. And im not a fan of Ogier. This year we have a lot of different winners and that is good, but still i would like the rules like they were when championship leader opened only for one day. In many rallies that is almost 40 % of the rally.

Probably enough speed to win some rallies. But not that much he used to have. I just wonder what are Ogier and Capito going to say in Germany when Ogier cannot reach the podium, or at least win - no loose gravel in there (not much in Finland, either).

My Opinion is that true is in the middle...in rally mind/have brain free is one of the keys of the success, if added with big talent and experiences (as we saw how improved Meeke this year one time he signed contract with Citroen) Ogier probably this year lost awareness, complaining all time (too much, really annoying mode to do), and this have also effected his performances.
I still believe he is the most complete driver, able to be fast in every kind of rally with Meeke that is arriving very close. Also if i'm not at all Ogier fan i also hope next year we will back to last years rules..i believe with actual level of drivers and 2017 cars we will have a great fight for the championship!

His fighting spirit often turns into crashing spirit. I think he has done a good and mature weekend. Meeke has delivered a strong performance and was in a better position than him.
He has to be ok with it not blaming fighting spirit.

If JML's face was anything to go by being second was not the plan! Saying he lacked fighting spirit is a pretty dumb thing to say when you've just been party to the boss's prediction coming true (especially when it had been meant as a kick up the Teemo!)
As a close observer of the stages over the weekend how anyone could say it's not so slippery for the cleaner is beyond me. At times it's like driving on ice!

Just came home from NRF this morning. Nice weekend, best rally in years. Good to meet many friends from this forum on the stages.

My only comments on drivers will be this:

Very good performande from Meeke. Surprising drive from Breen. Both drivers without pressure from start. Never the less - you can´t have good times whole rally without being brave and mature.

I think all other drivers (except for Lappi) in one way or another are dissapointed. Neuville might got groving confidence after PS win.

Tidemand showed sisu when he tried to get Suninen on last stage, but failing in the most common bend of the rally except from Kakaristo junction - the Vatanen one. You can go for it but not go 5 in an 3R. Tanak speed didn´t hold whole rally. Was kind of expected, but he is in Meeke mode he was two years ago.

Also disapointning for Bergkvist, having that irritating off first day. With a little help from spectators he could have driven rest of stages in semirace speed to get more experience. Marshalls did not think so. Showed quite god speed on some stages. He has to go on driving more rallies. Nice to hear he´ll start in Germany.

I'm still trying to recover from last week, putting together pieces of what exactly did I just experience. An overwhelming rallying week and at least now it feels like the best edition of Rally Finland I've gone through.

My rally week started Monday morning at WRC2/3 tests. A little disappointing number of R5 (Lappi, Tidemand, Pedder, Gilbert), but otherwise spectacular place. It ended in a huge crash of Pienizanek. I moved on to Abbring's test. Team was changing the gearbox, so Kevin and Seb were laying off, Kevin watching WRC+ reviews of Finland and Seb just browsing the net. Later on I saw a handful of high speed runs from them. On one of them they touched a haybale and lost front mask. One man came carrying the bumper to the service, saying "this is nothing, I have a rear wing from Malcom Wilson's MG Metro when he crashed in Ouninpohja 1986". Stories like these just float around. Later on the day I managed to see the last two runs of Evans' tests.

Tuesday was more about social events, our friends' get together. However, early in the morning I went to see the crews at the start of Ouninpohja recce. Had a chat with many of them. We also had this silly idea we pulled through, giving Ogier a babybody for his son. Generally I'm not an Ogier fan at all, but I try to think positive. He was positive about it too. https://twitter.com/hartusvuoriwrc/status/757833845299294208

Wednesday morning we did recce a handful of stages we haven't recced yet. That proved important later on. In the evening we went to Suolahti to see WRC crews have a go with Valtra tractors. It proved very succesful event, a little dangerous too as those drivers are just boys on the inside and when you give them such a machine and time it, risks get high. Luckily no one crashed. It was also good opportunity to meet up with friends again, from the forum, Twitter as well the stages.

Thursday was the beginning of it. Fourth early morning. We positioned ourselves in the shakedown at the corner after the last, the biggest jump. No view to the jump unfortunalately, but the corner was just as exciting. Several close calls and also a roll number one from Yazeed. It was also nice to meet friends, exchange plans where to go, etc. Later on we visited service park. At the pedestrian bridge that leads to SP area, you normally meet a World Champion. Such was the case this year as well as Juha Kankkunen walked in. Many nice chats in the service park, but top mention must go to Leslie/@TheZeroCar who was with Izuno Kohei's team. Being served dried tofu was not what I was excepting Later on a dinner and spectating SS1 Harju at the final corner occured.

Friday was the first proper rallying day. We started with the new stage SS3 Halinen. It was over crest left hander that tightened. It was very slippery for the crews. Mikkelsen slid wide more than a car's width and missed a bedrock by 30 cm which could've ruined his rally. Eventually nothing serious happened however. We moved on to SS7 Koivisto. Using forestry roads and walking over 500 metres through the forest on unpathed route meant we were onto something. Koivisto is a high speed stage (Tänak's average was 130,09 kmh). We spectated at left hander which was preceeded by another left hander and a long fast section. Paddon arrived fully sideways. Gorban almost spun. Bonato had a huge moment. Then came local Jukka Metsälä in brand new Fabia R5 and rolled the car spectacularly. Tough one for the privateer. Last stage of the day for us was SS Surkee 2. We did a high speed right hander on the big road, corner where Armstrong had his huge crash on first run. Serious place. I had to marshall some spectators to give me better sense of safety. But when Latvala and Abbring came 5th gear flat out and tires already on the soft edge of the road with a big rock lying in wait, we started to hope nothing would happen. Nothing did. https://twitter.com/hartusvuoriwrc/status/759071936488112128

Saturday and Ouninpohja. Rally Finland classic. For me the first run would also mean the only stage on Saturday as I had a weddings to attend in the afternoon. At first that seemed a disappointment, but on Saturday it started to feel like a well deaerved rest :-) Ouninpohja 1 was fun while it lasted. We had a nice jump into tight right hander. No close calls for WRC crews, but it was spectacular nevertheless. Once stage was stopped, I left the place. Soon after Vetomies started, Nikara had a big moment and then came the Subaru crew that jumped too long and stage was again SOS'ed. Considering Ouni 1 for WRC and Ciamin's crash, it's unbelievable how small sanction he got. You don't drive over 130 km/h on a liason even if it's a closed for traffic stage. Many spectators were moving around. Ciamin rolled four times. FIA should've at least ban him for the rest of the season or even for a year. No mercy.

Sunday morning, the Rally Zombie morning. After a less than 4 hours sleep it felt heaven. We had no proper plan for Sunday, just going to places with tips from friends. We ended up to do three stages in five hours. Oittila 1 at the start on tightening left. Nothing happened. Then we moved to Lempää 2 and realised we had over 2 kms to walk and about 25 minutes time. Sometimes you just are at the right time at the right place. Once we started walking a small road, we were offered a ride on a trolly with leather couch. I've never sat on couch through a forest path. That saved us so much time that we made it in time to the stage. Eventually we returned to Power Stage, Oittila 2, and had to return to the same place as on the first run because all other parking areas were full. While already leaving, Kruuda crashed on the next corner.

This is already too long post, but still just a scratch of all what happened. And I haven't shared a word about the sporting side of the event. Oh my. Leaving to Trier in two weeks makes it easier to settle down. After that it's just waiting again.

sindroms
2nd August 2016, 10:34
Back from my fourth and third in a last four years Finland WRC. We started from Wednesday, Ouninpohja in both directions and Paijala drive was our shakedown, because of even Ruuhimaki last jump after our 800km in 16 hours didn't persuade us wake up so early. In next day - Aanekoski stage recce, service park visit and city stage. I am not a fan of these kind of stages but it was quite ok to end day like this. We were on last corner before finish. All drivers were more or less in same style only Paddon took this corner in quite aggressive manner.
Halinen stage was the first one for Friday. After 400m straight, easy jump and righthander, little downhill and lefthander over crest then. Mikkelsen woke up us by his little off there. Place was very interesting and demanding, so we decided to stay there and not to rush to Surkee after first 20 cars. Abbring did there in very wide style. Most spectacular part there was vetomies, from time to time I jumped out of my chair to see how it will end but all of them managed stay on road. Jukkojarvi massive jump was our next spot. We had a plenty of time to get there, so we could choose the best places where to stand very easily. To spectate this jump in second run was the right choice - as I understood from WRC highlights in first run jumps were poor. All top drivers did their best with a little braking before jump though, except Neuville - so award for biggest jump goes to him. Interesting that only Ostbergs and Camilli Fords hit the limiter while were on the fly (don't remember about Tanak). When we start snooze Nr.70 2wd car woke up us - crew matched big boys distance but landing was on nose and hard.
Paijala was our Saturday choice. I wanted to see how they will cope with that section along the house (place where Hanninen rolled in opposite direction). Paddon took it in wide style, Abbring was totally wrong on braking - blocked wheels for a while before corner entry. In that place I start to understood why Meeke is a leader. Absolutely perfect line was drawed by him, reminded Loeb to me very much. In second pass we were in four jump sequence with high speed lefthander in the end. Judging by that place I must say VW still got most powerful machinery, it was so obvious there. I had a feeling that Ostberg and Neuville misscalculated something, because of landing after last jump was very clumsy. Seemed like they started to turn it that lefthander already, need to check onboards. R5 was surprise for me there, due to lighter weight they had some kind of frog jumping effect on last two jumps :)
In Sunday we didn't want power stage 3 minutes gaps so we took Lempaa stage. Righthander over blind crest wasn't bad at all. Some crews took too wide it but there was far from serious accidents. In the end we stayed in parking next to jump with righthander after 30 m. Excellent place if you prefer spectate rally without leaving parking area :)

Citroen did a perfect rally. Meeke and Breen capitalized their previous Finland experience and road position and reminded how good Citroen WRC is/was. I hope it will give a boost for them all. From a weird things I must admit parking area fee collection. They complicated life to themselves not taking fee on entry but walking along in midnight... Bad surprise in this year was wasps. Every day I was forced to do countless strange moves trying to escape from them :) However for once I didn't succeed and got a bite in my finger. Luckily in our food reserves was an onion. Fresh slice of onion on bite (highly recommend in such cases) rescued me completely, because I have very bad reaction on these kind of bites.

All in all I am very happy with our trip, spot choices and all the rest! :)

My photos from an amazing Rally Finland: https://www.flickr.com/photos/140835060@N03/albums/72157671805907946

It was my first time there and what a great rally to spectate at, plus the atmosphere and service park is top notch. Apart from an hour on Saturday the weather was perfect, sunny and warm, too, plus Finland is such a beautiful country. Can't recommend it enough.

As for the rally itself, delighted to have a British winner! Meeke looked top class all weekend, with JML just looking a little off the pace. The only driver who looked quicker than Meeke at any time was Tanak, but he was pushing way too hard and eventually paid the price. Ostberg looked dreadful Day 1 but picked up at the weekend and seemed to be pushing that bit harder and equalling the Hyundais. Abbring was disappointing, and his setup looked totally wrong for the stages - ride height was way too high and it showed. Hugely impressed by Breen who drove both quickly and with great maturity - he showed real star quality at times over the rally. In WRC2 Lappi and Suninen looked way ahead of the rest. Tidemand and Evans were solid but didn't look to have enough to compete with the top 2 boys, even before they both had issues.

Especially trees! I agree. The Finns are so sloppy and lazy. They have left all those trees just laying around growing, They ignore the menace! Those trees get in the way of watching rallycars and if they don't do anything they just get bigger and more of the trees are encouaged by the others to grow..

Yesterday Tänak said to estonian national television that it was purely his decision to attack on the final day. He said that they had been fighting all weekend with problems and for a good result so why give it up on the final day. He said the first two passes were his only chance because the stages were new, on the second run everybody already know the stages. He doesnt really comment the accident but it is obvious that it was just too optimistic pacenote or the speed was just too high for the corner.

Already on wednesday our rally started badly because our car just lost power on the way to Jyvaskyla just out of Helsinki. So we had to limp through the rally with powerless car. On that day I thought that this isnt a good sign and boy i was right!

On Thursday we were in the beginning of shakedown just before the big jump so we saw the jump before and how they went into the big jump. First pass the VW's of Ogier and Mikkelsen went full bananas into the big jump, Meeke too and Paddon. Latvala and Tänak braked a little. The other runs everyone took it differently.

Friday we were on 2XMökkiperä, Jukojärvi and Horkka.

Saturday we took it more easily and went just to two stages, Ouninpohja1 and Päijälä2. On Päijälä2 we were in the middle of the stage were there was straight and a little jump and after jump fast left and right hander. Because Ouninpohja1 was cancelled we were very early on Päijäl2 on saw like 5 Vietomehet go off in that fast left hander place. When the top guys came you just saw the difference, although Latvala went also very wide there and Paddon took it also very wide but nothing too serious.

On Sunday we were on Lempä stage which we planned to see both times but when Tänak retired it was just enough for us. Our mood was already so and so because the previous problems and then in the end this. We changed our ship time to earlier and went away.

Overall it was still a great event. Im not an expert so the top guys up to Breen looked very similar to me. Then came Bertelli and others and you could see they were much slower in the corners, braking very early and some of them barely jumped on the places were the top guys jumped a lot! The Hyundais were much more sideways than others IMO. Visibly Meeke looked very fast just everywhere. Breen, Ogier and Tänak were the most clean ones IMO.

thanks again rally finland and im pretty sure i will be there also next year!

When the top guys came you just saw the difference, although Latvala went also very wide there and Paddon took it also very wide but nothing too serious.

We were about 100 m further on the stage. I could see the exit of the right hander you saw and after that was a small downhill, a lefthander and a right hander in a small uphill.

In driving the lefthander and right hander combination there was huge different in choosing driving lines. The top wrc drivers used the left side of the road after the lefthander, less experienced wrc drivers like e.g. Abbring were more in middle of the road. The third category was drivers driving a straight line from apex to apex. A surprise for me was that Henning Solberg was one of those.

A close call for Kruuda and Tempestini hitting the bank after the first right hander during the first run and for Henning Solberg during the second run. For me the highlights was getting hit by small stones by Pontus Tidemand on both runs and by Paddon on the second run.:)

I didn’t see the crash of vetomiehet but I saw the cars when walking back to the car for a little break before the second run. As can been seen from the pics the lefthander is hidden behind the crest.

Also back home from Rally Finland, once again amazing event! Also very nice to have met some forum members in real life. Thanks again to PanteAlex and Hartusvuori for the tips about the tyre center, warmest welcome and best service we've ever had in a tyre center. :D It's fair to say Finland is the biggest and best organized WRC event at the moment. All in all a great event with a great atmosphere around the rally. Still stunning to see what these drivers can do on the countless blind crests and jumps, often in corners. Hartusvuori said the jump on Ruuhimaki would be huuuge, well, it was! Biggest jump I've ever seen, and probably the scariest too... I think we are getting close to the point where the drivers/codrivers back will be more limiting than the suspension of the car itself. By the looks and the results, we can say Citroën (and their drivers) did their homework very very well, both Meeke and Breen were THE drivers of the rally, I didn't expect this. I also think it must have hurt for Ogier to be slower than Meeke even with a +- equal starting position. Hyundai has let us down a bit, more was expected from them, especially regarding the pace they've shown on the last events... Tänak again combined very strong pace with some mistakes which you cannot afford in WRC. Luckily for him there are enough teams that need a fast driver next year. In WRC2 Lappi seemed too fast for the others, Suninen was very impressive to see, but the times didn't follow, I think his driving was a bit too brutal sometimes.

Here's a video from my friends, I think it could be already posted on the forum, but ok... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnxFtmJWEuM&feature=share

Whoever came up with the idea to basically troll rally fans by uploading a minute of Meeke's run through Ouninpohja is a useless dog, as NOT would say. They've never done that before, but decide to do it with a drive that so many people would love to watch. These moronic berks in charge are what holds this sport back. As someone previously mentioned, a full video of that stage could have gone viral. We've already seen WRC drivers and Valentino Rossi comment on that incredible fan video, and this would have similar impact.

Ogier's run through Ouninpohja back in 2013 was uploaded on the YouTube channel and got just under 300k views - Meeke's would get much more imo. This should be used to promote the sport and attract new viewers to the WRC youtube channel etc, but instead they're just desperate for a few extra subscribers to WRC+. Small time thinking or what!

I have WRC+ so at least I can still watch it and all the other fantastic onboards, but have to watch with picture quality that's barely even standard definition. Sadly for those who don't have WRC+, they won't get to see that incredible drive even in low picture quality. The idiocy is beyond me

It's not that difficult making things go viral these days, just hard work over time to build some contacts and a bit of luck is all it takes.
WRC got lots of people for that job so if one guy can do it, they can.

Up to 90.000 views already and last years video up to 930.000 views now, guess getting that insane spot in Ouninpohja helped ;)

I agree with AL14 - you should give yourself some more credit. Ultimately it comes down to the content - and it has to be good (which yours is). In this day and age you can simply just pay to ensure your videos/posts have a huge reach. But when you see something like your videos generate all this through organic growth, just through fans and word of mouth, then you have to take notice. It is a very interesting case study I think and the WRC should be looking at videos like this. What do they have that their coverage doesn't. There is really no excuse because they reccy the stages too.

What is crazy to think is that if you got just a few of the people on this forum together and combined resources - you could create a product that blows the WRC offering into the weeds.

If these guys had a small help with money,so they could afford 2 days more at each round, and could recce all the rally meter by meter.

I always go over on Tuesday for Rally Finland to recce stages, especially important this year with so many new and revers stages.
I did Sundays stages on the way up, 13 hours on Wednesday just missing Jukojärvi and then Sunday's stages again after shakedown since they were a bit difficult to figure out. Some tree chopping along the way, even got a couple of spots ready for MeTHKa that i didn't use i could see, 0.20 sec and 2.19 in his video ;) So all in all with onboard watching it's probably more than 20 hours of preparation, hopefully this doesn't make me seem mental :p

As for promotion goes i only spent 15 euro on my Facebook page, if you don't only something like 1/4 of your likers will see it. In defense of WRC-TV, using a tripod and having a spot where you could set up commercial banners does limit you a bit. My footage looks quite shaky when you watch it on a big screen.

How much walking during the rally (filming)?

How much walking during the rally (filming)?

A quick estimate says about 30km, so like normal in Finland, heavy enough with a 4kg camera backpack :)
A bunch of us got told off by Ari Vatanen for sitting and waiting at the Power Stage being tired from walking so shouldn't complain then ;)

A try to make it look good when doing it so the land owners won't get mad ;)
It doesn't hurt clearing out the forest a bit in Finland, compare Solberg's Ouninpohja with todays and it's quite a big difference!

It wasn't that bad this year, here's the walk in calculated to 2km in my head into Päijälä, only 1.6km each way.
Hänninen's corner top right if you want to know where i went, entered from the west side of the stage through a cleared out forest since i was going to the end of Ouninpohja after, the entry road is very narrow by Hänninen's corner so figured this was shorter and safer :)

My friend's phone measured 53 km from Thursday to Sunday. I started with tests on Monday, but did only half a day on Saturday, so I think I did maybe a little less. Plus all standing still. Heavy work for feet, but loving it.

A bit late but not to worry , just a quick note of my first trip to Rally Finland.

Thursday was spent at shakedown and service then onto SS1 , Friday started with SS2 Mokkipera , on to SS4 Jukojarvi then SS6 Horkka , after lunch back to Mokkipera and then Surkee finished the day back in the service park.
Saturday started with Ouninpohja had planed to watch all cars plus the first few Vetomiehet but this went out the window when first the wrc stage was terminated and then after a few cars the Vetomiehet stage was stopped as well , so we moved on to SS16 , after lunch back to Ouninpohja and then back to Saalahti , finished the day in the service park again.
Sunday was more relaxed , drove to Oittila and watched the first run ,while relaxing in the car noticed the 2 guys next to us were wearing Richard Burns shirts that's when I remembered about Rallyper mentioning this and just shows it's a small world , there was Rallyper and son also Pantealex so we all had a chat and then back into SS24 , where we went to the stage finish.
On the way back to Helsinki we stopped into the Jamsa hotel where there was a fantastic model rally car display on show also the big Dakar truck was in the carpark getting ready for the run over Ouninpohja on Monday after that we drove the whole Ouninpohja stage a lot slower than Kris but very enjoyable.

A fantastic experience and i'd reckon we will be back next year , my son is planning the trip already.. thanks to everyone for putting up tips of spots on stages, every spot we went to were first class.

I have a question. Has someone a pic of the fiesta of Tamrazov? It could be in action or in servicepark during rally finland. Its is car #81

Thnx!

Read through this entire thread now and discovered that we have not posted in like we usually do.
Wonderful rally as usual and the whole atmosphere with everything around in the surrounding is absolutely wonderful! Already longing for this year's competition.
