What a way to start the year!
Kopecky was the fastest and really did deserve to win, being 25 secs down, and he pulled the stops out. Bouffier was consistent, and was slightly fortunate to gain the lead, but that is Rallying.

I was impressed with the pace of Harrach, he set some great times.

The new ERC has got off to a great, and promising start. Bring on Latvia....

My summary :)

Kopecký - great fightback, again several strange tyre choices but in the end sure great performance, of course he had an upper hand in machinery which counts
Bouffier - very good and faultless performance considering inferior car and no experience with the rally, with factory car he would have it easier
Baumschlager - solid and 100% reliable as always, old fox knows the rally like nobody else
Pech - fast but inconsistent, plenty of mistakes which he rarely does (except for Jänner where he is crashing most of all events), moreover the unpopular record of being the fastest caught speeding in recce...
Harrach - crazy fast but somehow I don't get his setup issues when he was on home soil in a same car as always; anyway nice to see him in finish after the crashes of last year
Kajetanowicz - simply great, I didn't thought he could fight with Harrach
Delecour - a bit of disappointment, especially I don't understand why Kronos came with only 6 wet tyres when everybody who checked weather forecast must have known they would be needed
Orsák - solid performance without any mistakes, clearly fastest of class 3 drivers, ridiculed his teammate Tlusťák
Tarabus - another disappointment, despite some electrical problems still the performance was far from what I was hoping for, at least he found the speed to overtake Valoušek in last stage
Valoušek - the biggest disappointment, continuous misery; seems like he can't get over the big accident from Barum rally 2011, since then he is either slow or crashes out
Danzinger - since the start clearly fastest 2WD driver
Černý - did well in his first S2000 outing especially on snow
Turán - another disappointment crashing out so early

I don't think Kopecky did bad tyre choice at first 3 stages. He gained almost a minute on 1st stage and didn't loose that much the next 2 stages against Baumschlager, who would be probably faster (with equal tyres) in the snowy conditions. The puncture was just a misfortune, perfect Rally for him, congratulations!

In the past there were many talks about car of Harrach. After Rallye Waldviertel 2011 they even brought his car to Vienna university where it was for nearly one month to be examined to the last screw but no violation of rules was found.

Of course there are always ways to cheat and with gr.N cars it's rather easy but until somebody issues a successful protest (or Harrach is caught by stewards) it's just gossip.

I've seen it, the faster exit isn't that noticeable, but I tend to agree with dimvii in the uphill part. Also, car setup, tyre choice & degradation, revs/gear, road grip in each one's trajectory, effective braking/accelerator applied, etc... can also help to justify some of the difference.

I saw the rally in place and have to say that Harrach was the very few from the top 15 who was constantly in attack mode. Most of the S2000 guys are drove with big reserve (yes the stages were realy slippery and unpredictable), On top of Harrach , Kopecky, Baumschlager, Bouffier, Pech was quite Ok, the rest more or less like tourist from the top.
Just confirmed to myself that turbocharged cars are needed for spectacular rallying and I will not miss the S2000 without turbo. (the sporting aspect could be ok like the 0,5sec diff showed it)

Beppo went flat on last stage, trying to win this stage (he likes that one, for example he took last year 18 secs from Baumschlager there and overtook his 3rd place), hit a drain channel and bend his rear axle....might explain the time difference.

on day 1 he lost over 2 minutes due to an non working heating/ventilation-system and he overtook Tlustak on last friday stage, so good performance to finally secure the PC-win, from this point of few he well deserves the CMR-trophy.

On the other hand I agree that Kajetanowicz or Kopecky would have deserved it as well for sure.

Yes, the 307WRC sufferred from "Pipo Moteurs syndrome" too.

Regarding the Mini, I meant more that it sounds boring on the onboards. It might be going virtually the same speeds as the S2000s but it sure sounds, and therefore looks slower.

Anyhow, the 208 R5 sounded a bit better in the testing video we have seen so far so I am hopeful.

Try some older ones from 2012 if they work. There may be a temporary restriction on Jänner ones for non-Czech IPs. It has always been like that with Barum Rally as a part of agreement between Eurosport and Mediasport (promoter of Czech championship). Usually it was non-available abroad for two weeks but always there was someone found on this forum who could watch them anyway.

So it's classic thing with only certain VIN codes allowed for making gr.N cars. Anyway car of Tuček was already refused in Barum Rally three or four years a go and since then he uses different one for Barum rally. French FIA technical officials Jerome Toquet and Lionel Carre are always going after that. I don't know who of them was in Freistadt.

In Croatia Rally 2007 3 Mitsubishi Evo 9's (I know the names of drivers and tuners- it's not neccesary to go public with them) were excluded from the ERC field due to chassis irregularities. As I understood it, some tuners used Evo 7&8 chassis on their Evo "9" cars, because the Evo 9 chasis is more rigid it is also 60 kg heavier. These irregularities were found by a French official (probably one ot the two mentioned) who was a few months before the rally in Mitsubishi HQ on educational purposes.

If I remember right for Evo IX it was Japanese RS version required while the cheapest bodyshells are second hand cars from USA. The difference is in VIN but also in the shape of some reinforcement members. There was a guide for recognizing "good" and "bad" ones.

True, I remember that. For Evo 9 to be 100% legal you must have a Japanese RS version, while one of those disqualified cars was brought from North America (100% correct info)

about evo 9 chassis,only the evo 9 rs and gt chassis is valid for international motorsport.Chassis from evo 9 gsr is not valid,but there is no changes at chasssis vs evo 9 rs.Also evo 9 chassis is lighter and not heavier due to aluminium roof and aluminium bars inside doors.
Invalid cars for international motorsport is not only us evos but all gsr evos, eudm or jdm or audm
