I bet when Seb Loeb stopped his first thought was: "Damn, I've messed up the forum guy's pick 'ems" :)
Very magnanimous of him but it was Hanninen I'm concerned about as I took him over Tanak (both weighted the same coefficient) However I've got Sordo, Meeke and Mini in my 2 drivers and WRC team pick -woo hoo!

Well this is certainly entertaining me in the office on Friday. Crazy wrc morning and one that blows the title open! Its too unpredictable but an Ogier Loeb Hirvonen straight fight in the Welsh stages would be nice!!

I think Mini already has a position where Dani can push and Kris will be around to take up a podium if any of the 1st 3 break. Mikko just doesn't appear to have the speed and JML is going to have to set fastest times on most stages to get back into contention. Come on Mini!!!

I don't know why anyone would think this is exciting. This reminds me of a few years ago when Mikko spent the whole year plodding around and nearly won the title. I'm looking forward to a time in the next couple of years when this shouldn't happen anymore when there is more competition from VW and Mini.

N.O.T
30th September 2011, 10:19
Hirvonen is a nobody, in Spain Sordo will eat the quitter for breakfast.

The championship is between Ogier and Loeb, if things go as they are. Citroen will employ team orders for GB to the one who is ahead after Spain.

This rally is has still too much life ahead so wait and see.

Yes, but Mikko doesn't do that very often either. My point is that because there is still not very much competition at the moment then if the Citroens have problems then Mikko (or whoever) will really benefit big time because there is nobody else there to fill the gap. Imagine Ford pulled out next year but Stobart continued... then probably Henning and Wilslow could be "battling for the championship"

OK at the current pace (without any more car problems) Juho should be back in 4th place after the next 2 stages. He should be able to catch Brynildsen (edit sorry meant Prokop) too - so still advantage Juho for the championship.

I just realized that if Ogier wins the rally and powerstage, he gets +28 points, then he has 195 points in total, Loeb has 196 points in total, when Mikko finishes the rally in fourth place (quite realistic) and maybe collects one point from the powerstage, then he has 194 points. So, then we have three drivers in 3 points.

Don't think Ogier needs to worry about Petter. Petter wouldn't be allowed, unless Ogier does a mistake and the ford closes up. If Petter gets to close, something will happen with Petter

Citroën needs Petter in top 2 to protect Ford from getting to many points in both championship - they will give him an offer he can't refuse to stay second - or to win if Ogier messes up.

bluuford
30th September 2011, 11:12
Solberg has the best chance to win a rally now. Ogier must run under very strict orders to finish the rally. When something happens to him, then Ford can collect 33 points and there is another championship open (+29 points before two final rounds if something happens with Ogier). Never say never and nothing is over before it is over.

Did anyone catch Hänninen's interview in WRR? Finnish forum is quoting him saying that it was one of those anti-cutting poles that pierced the puncture that forced him to stop on SS3 to change the tyre.

Again - I understand the purpose of anti-cutting poles but they're done wrong.

If you believe that Petter now has a better engine than Germany then possibly so. Ogier has to be going as fast as he can to build up a margine for error, he cannot afford to be doing just enough when there are still 17 stages to go and no benefit from not being 1st on the road

if you have the most points at the end of the season you deserve it, doesnt matter if you havent won a single rally. that is just my opinion.

But for sure not my opinion. Points are only a little part of making a champion. The highest level of motorsport now and then has to suffer from a poor champion. In F1 it has been Mike Hawthorn in 1958, Mario Andretti in 1978, Keke Rosberg 1982 and Jacques Villeneuve in 1997. In MotoGP it was Nicky Hayden in 2006 and Keny Roberts Jr in 2000. What they have in common are that lucky one year and in the rest of their career, they were always beaten.

So what to do? have an jury giving the championship to the most worthy??

If Mikko wins it he is worthy! And it is not like he is some spoiled brat getting the best car that a monkey could win with...

irish_tiger
30th September 2011, 14:05
But for sure not my opinion. Points are only a little part of making a champion. The highest level of motorsport now and then has to suffer from a poor champion. In F1 it has been Mike Hawthorn in 1958, Mario Andretti in 1978, Keke Rosberg 1982 and Jacques Villeneuve in 1997. In MotoGP it was Nicky Hayden in 2006 and Keny Roberts Jr in 2000. What they have in common are that lucky one year and in the rest of their career, they were always beaten.

I don't hate Hirvonen, I just don't think he's worthy of being Champion ... sinmple as that

Mmm you could be correct ..... but it would be nice to see some else win . Would you not think that Peter was a bit lucky in 2003 when Carlos's car stopped for 30 odd seconds in Spain that year and he got a few extra points ?

Yes Ogier being 3rd at road he knows only Mikkos splits ''in time''.To know the splits from crews behind him he has to wait some time(2 min differences from start) When he knew Latvalas/Petters splits he reacted.
Mikko of course is very slow another more time.

There is no need to see after stage 7.
stage 6 was the same as stage 2. Sordo and Petter were faster at second pass than in 1st pass.So road condition no bad.
Ogier while he had won at stage 2,when pepeated he was slower by 4,1 sec.
Petter was faster at second pass 2,1 sec and Sordo 1,5
Thats why i said cruising mode.

So I suppose that Ogier has now cruised to 2nd place and will soon cruise to 3rd unless he steps it up, I would suggest your summation of the situation is flawed, the top 3 will all be going flat out as is Latvala. Road position is actually worse as more cars traverse the non-existent cuts. When Sordo is running higher in the order tomorrow he will be quicker still

it is not so difficult to understant what is hapening via splits.
At split No3 Ogier still slower than the slowest wanna be champion by 0,4.
Split 3 is after 5,37 min. So after 5,37 minutes have started the ss Latvala and Petter(2 min and 4 min start behind Ogier)At this time Ogier know first splits from Jari and Petter.
Suddenly Ogier became fast as Latvala and Petter.
Ignore the first 3 splits and just calculate the rest till the finish. You will be surprised from your calculator.

all these people who think that they give credit to the old guys by diminishing the champions of today are just little people who fortunately they will extinct like the dinosaurs they support....

Where have I, for example, ever diminished the champions of today? Far from it — I for one believe the achievements of Loeb, for example, bear comparison with any of the greats, so far ahead of the pack is he. But my comparison between the actions of Clark and Raikkonen does not fall into this category at all.

Come on, that minor little "roll up to corner not using the brakes then not bother to rotate" is easy you understand: you can only lock the rears and rotate if you are going fast enough, and PULL on the handbrake...
That corner probably only cost him 5-8 seconds..
One little error and you want to pee all over him...

You must be a haterz..

I am not surprised by Sordo's pace at all. He must know the roads pretty well by now and the car seems to be working for him.

Wow! Amazing to see this result after day 1.
Would be fantastic to see Dani and Mini take their first win, especially in their testing year.
I'm sitting on the fence here as I would also like to see Petter also claim his first win in 6 years. A win would probably be the boost he needs to continue as a privateer, both mentally, and financially from a sponsors point of view.

I am gueniuenly suprised that Sordo is leading, but hopefully petter can win for the first time in over 6 years.

Think back and remember all the things that have happened since September 2005?

+1  Sordo and Meeke will both win rallys one day, Im reasonably sure of that, Petter may be on his final year, I really wish he would go out with a bang, no one else in the championship deserves a win as much as he does.
And as much as I'd love to see ex citroen number two sordo beating the driver he had to assist for so many rallys(and not just beating him, getting the better of him on his own turf), I've got my fingers crossed for Solberg to win this event :D

Latvala is pushing Meeke, putting him the pressure. If Meeke makes a mistake, then Mikko will pass Latvala to claim more points. That is why Mikko is not taking risks?

I don't know but it looks like Mikko doesn't even want to try to win the title. Permanent safety mode on all the time?

Except that he is always slow at tarmac,he knows that is impossible to gain time from Seb Jari Dani Petter. He just waits for retirements.

How do You guys know that Mikko is not pushing? What if he just can't go much faster?

i am sure that he is pushing.Just can t go faster. His exits in almost all last rallies at first days show that he is pushing.
