Another penalization for Solberg on stage 17. Now he has 50 seconds of penalty.
SOLBERG P. / PATTERSON Ch. (st. č. 11) "Have problem with broken gear lever. Big jump in the middle on wrong gear. Big moment. Car wan't start before the stage." Maybe that's the reason, the car wouldn't start before the stage and made them get late at TC.

Yes, it made today quite interesting for me. This penalty for Loeb, then better road position and big fightback. Good drive by Ogier and cheering for Latvala to take Fords first stage win :-) I guess that there is a big possibility to shine on power stage for Latvala as well. He can save tires during the first two stages (while Sebs have to fight with each other) and then give it all on power stage. Logical thinking says that the only real contender for him will be Solberg (at power stage).
And I also noticed that there is 62 km with the same tires tomorrow, so tires will be quite worn by the last stage.
Which I also noticed from the interview in the morning that Wilson has sent some kind of tender regarding Ogier case yesterday. So, this case might not be finished yet as well.
And SWRC list is short but it seems to come very interesting final day. Hopefully Kruuda´s Skoda lasts until the finish ramp tomorrow (looks like it has got double heat shock after several winter rallies :-P). And hopefully MM-Motorsport is able to get Tänak´s car out from the valley and fix it by tomorrow, so the boy can regain some confidence before the next rally.

Well looking the new circumstances that autosport reveals (http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/89762), then Ogier should be really greatful to the stewards :-) If he wins he should present his champagne to the stewards ;-)
However, I am bit happy about this decision and hope that everybody will be treated like that in the future. Rally is not like F1 where all the result are changed after every race/qualification due to someone speaking too loud, making too many turns, driving too slow etc.

I think Ogier case is a bit ridicoulous. He is fastest and can be able to win. The small incident is nothing sportswise. Ford winning or gaining places on that matter should not be good.
On the other hand Loeb´s push start in Sweden was much more violent to the rules and should be ruled for what it was.

Ford isn't on the loosing side in this rally because of a jack under Ogier's car for few seconds but because they have managed to win only one stage out of nineteen so far. That's what matters. OK, it's not according to rules but the real problem of the championship is that Ford is slow here and disqualifying Ogier would not change it.

I don't like Citroen's boys and with their FIA games! The rules for all!!!
bluuford
6th March 2011, 13:24
Well, normally yes, but when you drive directly to service, park your car and mechanics are putting jacks under the car..that is a bit further than taking a cup of coffee on a long road section.
Well as a virtual spectator I am happy. It would have been really boring to watch Loeb cruising in the middle of the road for a couple of days.
But team managers explanations was a bit silly "there were no marshals pointing the right direction and it was confusing" You cannot have marshals on every corner, not even in Mexico :-)
Couple of years ago one competitor (in Estonian Championship) asked me how to get back to the start for a second city stage pass :-) The co-driver was completely lost :-P In such cases it is normal that you don't need to investigate anything:-)
But the decision is done and we have to respect it! And we can use the decision in the future to solve similar situations.
The first cars is just about to start the day!!!!!!!!!!!

It would even be better for the spirit of the game if all drivers could get a change to hurry up to the service crew and quickly fix their problems and then quickly rejoin the rally. So nobody would loose time due to stupid things like mecanical trouble and regulation. Because regulations and mecanical trouble are bad for the (motor)sport. Whe disqualify a driver for wearing good glows, even when their homologation is expired, but let a top professional driver slip to the service crew, hand over his time card and get away with it?
The FIA should then forgive every driver who clocks in too soon or too late. be an angel and forgive them their silly mistake. Ogier made a very big mistake and should be penelized, no matter the car, the team the nationality or his champion position. You say that regulations are ruining the spirit of sport?

I remember too what happened a few years ago in Finland, the issue about wearing clothes, making some drivers excluded. Compared to that you are right. No doubt. But then you compare and make conclusions that cannot be a result of the Ogier-mistake.
So - lets not make this a big issue, because its not.

Brutal :( He'd been showing impressive driving this weekend. So close to the finish!
But to be honest, I'm pretty disappointed that Ogier gets off free with that infraction just because he's on the Citroen factory team.
I don't think he deserves the penalty because it's a silly rule to have and it should be changed; but the fact is that it's a rule, and unless I'm interpreting it wrong, he broke it. Why he isn't getting penalised for it when a non-factory car would likely get a penalty or even excluded is ridiculous.

You can have an accident while cruising, so that logic isn't waterproof. But the main point for me is: shame. I like Ogier talent and the fact that he can keep a lead while sweeping. This wouldn't have been necessarily an easy win for Seb1 - but now it is.

Loeb now the absolute king in Citroen Sport.Even if Quesnel seems that ''likes'' Ogier more than Loeb, now he can t let Ogier to attack Loeb in future rallies.Citroen sport after the not good rally in Sweden(in term of points) are not going to collect so much points in Mexico. So must play safe in next rallies without leting drivers attacking each other....and this is not good for us.
Another point is psycology of Ogier.Like that wasn t Latvala in his early days?Too fast but not always safe.Hope to be more lucky than Jari.

The problem however will be how is he going to sell that order to Ogier ??? Seems that Ogier is a kinda of a guy who doesn't swallow that kind of order without biting..... like he shouldn't :mark:

I don't know how long is Mr. Quesnel able to guarantee equal treatment for Loeb and Ogier ?? Having two hungry drivers in one team can be bad for the business......
I can say that Ogiers exit was Quesnels mistake. You can t leave your 2 drivers while they are minutes in front of competition to have a dogfight among them.
ok maybe he likes young Ogier more, but 7 world championships from Loeb cant be forgoten with ease.and now he pays his stupidity.my 2 cents

At citroen the general rule all these years is to let the drivers fight until someone got the upper hand....Loeb is going to be champion for the 8th concecutive year...Ogier will be second. The rest are going to feed off their tablescraps....as usual. Fords only chnace to do anything this year is simply to withdraw Wilsons budget and push it towards the development of the car.

Dont think so that Ogier can t swallow orders.I think that you cant swallow orders only when your manager allows you.Remember last year when Ogier allowed to win in front of Loeb without the championships were safe for Citroen?Quesnels push for Ogier were obvious for me long time ago.

I doubt there's much worry about Ogier leaving Citroen... they're still his best chance for victory. If VW enters they likely won't be competitive for a year or two at least, and by then Loeb might be retired anyways. Regardless, I think Loeb is still the faster driver. Ogier is quick, but he's no Loeb.

When everybody knew Sordo wasn't allowed to win on tarmac if Loeb was even remotely nearby? I don't consider Ogier stupid. I think he is talented, young, hungry and full of self esteem to beat Loeb and wants to challenge him with the support of his team, team Citroen.

I think Quesnel meant the drivers were equal before the season started... and he proved that was true by letting this fight happen. Now that Loeb (presumably) has a big lead in the championship, it'd be illogical to not label him the no1 driver, unless he crashes out of a future rally and the points become even again.
That said, should Ogier disregard team orders, there's not much Quesnel can really do about it. He needs Ogier for the manu championship because there's nobody else that can beat the Fords, except for Petter- and Petter certainly won't listen to team orders. But in the long term it'd probably be an unwise career move.

Martin Prokop (CZE): “I’m very, very happy. Happy we finished in front of Škoda in particular. We got
important Championship points. The only problem was with bad set-up on Friday, but Saturday and Sunday
everything was perfect. This year the competition in the SWRC is strong, so every point is important.”
He is Czech and it seems that he doesn't like Škoda. :P

Hänninen commented to Finnish News Agency on his roll: "I tried to catch the drivers in front of me on the last three stages, but that didn't quite succeed. On penultimate stage we rolled. It happened on the road and we ended up on tyres. Once dust was settled we continued. It took only 14 seconds and car was perfectly ok. Afterwards, few kilometres before stage finish rear tyre punctured and we lost a lot of time there."

Care to explain? I can't listen to WRR right now.
I assume Ogier would have been to far behind Loeb to push for Victory????

i'm not so sure about that. Loeb got his 50 sec penelty on Saturday and was 10 seconds behind at the start of day 3.
At Ogiers last split Loeb was only 1.4 seconds faster (1,7 on the previous split) so i dont think Loeb would have taken allot of seconds on that stage.
Loeb would surely have won anyway but i dont think that Ogier would have been that far behind.

By the way, when I saw Hanninen´s time loss, then I was sure it was some kind of spin or smth and when I saw the final splits then I thought that probably puncture due to the spin or some kind of fuel problem like Kruuda had twice. But I could not imagine that he had a roll in 15 seconds:-)

Can you add manufacturers scratch times as well? Right now it is easy to calculate, but as the numbers are growing, it is getting harder and harder.

Seems that the wheel was turned out to get back on the road and then he hit something solid. When the wheel is turned out, then it is pretty fragile.

Ogier was indeed a bit unlucky, but still this retirement comes very much in same situation as the 3 in the row at the end of last year.
While fighting only with Loeb (or Loeb + Solberg (UK, France)) with the Fords far behind. Duval does come to my mind again. Wonder what happens if Ford will keep on leading the manufacturers champ., will Quesnel tell Ogier to stop chasing Loeb? And will Ogier get in line?
