the battle in sWRC is reduced to a two man battle between Pons and Prokop. Al Attiyah is to far behind the 2 Ford drivers. Too bad that Kosiuszko and Brynildsen are in trouble.

Very interesting to see that the top 2 PWRC drivers are mixing it up with the SWRC boys. Probably due to the nature of these high-altitude stages.

The altitude is apparently causing the pace of many of the cars to suffer but not if the car is French it seems. Only Hennig Solberg's Stobart VKM M-Sport Focus seems to be the one Focus that seems to be handling the altitude well aside from Blocks Focus.
I didn't read the other 8 pages of replies yet but....
Block has run events here in the US at 6-8,000 feet above sea level every year since 2005. He should be familiar with the differences in how a car will respond, plus, with little seat time he doesn't know how his car should respond at better altitudes so he probably doesn't have to change his driving style as much...

It seem like Kimi was already faster then he was in Sweden even without any testing, he should properly reign it in just a little bit, but I am sure he will realize this soon he is usually pretty sensible. At the moment it seems like he is just concentrating on getting faster. A bit more experience will be helpful, apparently they where also trying a new notes system. Or perhaps Kaj could try to reign him in a bit, but Kimi can be extremely stubborn, so it would properly be best if Kimi himself just realized it. :)

Because of the 6hr time difference between Mexico and the UK I have hardly heard anything of the rally but I am starting to feel glad about it.
Yesterday was dissapointing for me. Ford to go away from Day 1 with a respectable performance or two but all Ford have to show is five 5th's, three 6th's and two 4th's. A mirror of how slow his split times have been on his closest rivals.
Hope Day 2 will be better for Ford.
pettersolberg29
6th March 2010, 12:31
Day 2 must be better for Ford. If Mikko doesn't win stages then their confidence will be shot bearing in mind his excellent road position. By the end of the day I expect Loeb to be way ahead, then Ogier, then Sordo, Petter and the two Fords very close in 3rd-6th

There is another 11 rallies to go and the season is not won and/or lost in one rally (which is something to hold on to), but confidence needs to be retained for sure or they will loose the battle.
As for the Citroen's I don't know how the end of Day 2 will pan out overall but for sure I expect the ability for the Citroen's to remain strong to count.

It's still to early, without tactics I have no doubts that Solberg can catch Loeb on the second passes today, however I dont think Loeb will want to be the first on the road unless he has a 20 second advantage.
I get the impression Seb (L) is going absolutely flat out to get the biggest lead possible at the end of today.
Its been shortened tomorrow, so he won't have to sweep for long.

Kimi had laser surgery on his back one week before the rally. Kimi isn't one who complains easily, if he mentions it, it must be quite serious. Luckily there is 4 weeks before the next rally. He has a contract so he isn't just going give up, that is not him.

Solberg indeed did very well....but again the only people who really ridiculed are those little ford kids who are scared of retirement and want to finish rallies in order pappa wilson to sponsor his ueselss son... I never said that solberg wasn;t good for nothing..i just said he cannot win anymore and as years go by he will be worse and worse so its better to step aside. Finnish drivers have won more than 1/3 of all World Championship rallies. Finnish drivers have won 13 World Championship titles. Agree 100%.
Tension in the Ford team? From Autosport.com:
"Very frustrating. I don't know what is the answer. The Citroen is usually quicker than our car, except for two years ago. I think we were ahead of Citroen at that time, our dampers worked better with the new tyre in 2008, but now it's tough. They have a different engine and gearbox to us, maybe it's that. We don't know."
Team principal Malcolm Wilson pointed to Henning Solberg's performance through the morning - when the Stobart Ford driver was just 3.8 seconds down on rally leader Loeb on SS11 and 4.1s on the following stage - as evidence the car was not the whole problem.
"And don't forget," Wilson said, "Henning is driving a 2008 car. He ran stiffer suspension this morning, that's made a difference, and we're going to fit that to the [factory] cars this afternoon.
"Our boys aren't doing the business here and we haven't recovered the time we lost yesterday. There's no question that it's hard to pick yourself up after a tricky first day, but at the same time I'm surprised at the times Mikko and Jari have set today."

Henning would be further ahead only for the handbrake brake problems, and the brake overheating which he said after SS15 might be due to too much left foot braking.
Ford can't afford to go to sleep on one gravel stage if they are to have any chance this year.

I just have to log in to say that I completely agree (Woodeye). It's really sad how this loss of a human (N.O.T) is able to destroy every joy on this forum. Rally is about excitement, about cheering and having fun, about having favorite drivers and want them to do well. What the heck is this attitude of making fun and sarcasm of every driver who is not getting 1st place podiums and all of their forum supporters? I don't care how much rally knowledge you think you have, you are just a sad sad mind.. What did life do to you that gave you this need to push this rotten attitude on to everyone on this forum? Anyone who has lived a little knows that such attitude is just a cry of keeping your own head above water, for lack of other means. And now you are going down the drain too, cause it only lasts for so long..
I don't even care to write on this forum, exactly because of this type of idiot attitude is dominating every thread and opinion that other people bring forward. I don't want to waste my time debating up the asshole of others. And I think quite a few members have this same reason for just staying away.
