Absolutely not. It has none of the essential defining characteristics of a rally.

Jan Magnussen was driving the '00' car at a rally in Denmark the 10th of June 2000. He crashed before the finish. This was exactly one week before he participated in LeMans 24h 2000.

I don't see why. The Carreara was an out and out race with the fastest car winning.

The only thing the Carrera had in common with a rally is that it was run in daily stages.

The essential difference between a rally and a race is that a rally pits competitors against a bogey time. Hit the time and you don't get penalised. Take longer and you do. Arrive early and in a modern rally you don't get penalised so one car can cover a stage faster than another and they both get zero penalties. At one time in some rallies you could get penalised for arriving early.

The Tour de France was -- at least for a while -- essentially a series of races strung together by something resembling a rally. From time to time they actually had some sort of meaning, but then faded from the scene.

Duncan's comment is correct about the Carrera events -- they were flat-out races run in stages.

Has Stirling Moss surfaced yet? Keep in mind his performances in the Alpine Rally.

Yes, if you look back, I mentioned him in connection with his 1952 Monte performance.

My humble apologies, I simply managed to miss that reference to Moss -- even though it led off a sentence, sigh....
