Don't blame the dope who signs up to be fleeced Jan. If the average American serviceman is dumb enough to sign those loans or does business with these people, whose fault really is it?

I will tell you again Jan, you want to blame society for all the ills that most intelligent people are able to avoid. You cant protect people from their own greed, stupidity or avarice. At some point, they are responsible. You telling me the US military are all mind numbed robots?

You blame these businesses for a lot. I just told you in my town they are doing a roaring business and we don't have a military. You get so touchy Jan....All I am pointing out is blaming them for the rot of the society in that area, or the fact they exist having anything to do with 4 cops drinking coffee getting shot in the head is just silly. Then again, you think it is all the loan shark's fault people are dumb enough to take LEGAL loans from them. Got a news flash for you. The right of individuals includes the right to do dumb things. You would take all those rights away of course, because you know better.

As for me lecturing you on what you think is unique to military towns in the US, I will merely point out you thought I was full of crap pointing out holes in the Canadian Healthcare system once, a system you don't pay taxes to or USE so spare me the righteous indingnation.

You are so right Jan, no one should ever have to take responsibility for their own actions should they? People are just too dumb for their own good. How can anyone function in day-to-day life without "Big Brother" the Government telling them how to live? I mean, honestly, how can all these stupid people even be allowed to drive their own cars to work every morning? How can they be trusted to pick out their own food at the store? Yep we better have "Big Brother" take care of everything for us. We're all too dumb to do it. .... Well that is except for the all knowing, ever wise, and most merciful janvanvurpa.

You are well behind the times. Covert bulletproof vests are often worn by Police Officers in Victoria under their shirts. All members are provided them and are encouraged to wear them at all times when on duty. The only reason some don't is the comfort factor. I think police deal with a lot more than we know of and anyone capable of assaulting police in the execution of their duty should be dealt with in the most harsh way possible.

Hey I've got an idea. Why don't you reduce yourself to bypassing the online word censor so you can curse and act like that makes your argument more valid! I've heard that the real internet know it alls do it all the time and it makes them just RULE the discussion forums.

You might want to brush up on your math first though. The last I checked 17+25>40

Oh pobrecito pequeno, did I hurt your widdle virgin earsies?

Hey Corporal, why don't you add something to the discussion, you were an enlisted man in the Army for a short while, so you must know everything about how the local towns are around Infantry bases. Tell us what paradises on earth they all were.

And since you're the big Einstein in your own mind, what's wrong with the years? Did you ever consider a typo? No? Of course not, you're the perfect model citizen that could never even consider a mistake, you'd have to kill yourself since the shame would be unbearable.

Are you reading what i wrote?

You're not suggesting that decptive business practices are never done to 18-19-20 year old children in Uniform are you.
    What a pompous dipwad.

You sure infer a lot of bull**** from references that DoD and the various States were concerned about widespead dirty tricks and dishonest lease and loan deal were foisted on young first time away from home soldiers are you?

What the hell are you arguing about?

Maybe I just dreamed up the radio, TV and press reports how soldiers, especially young ones were being systematically victimized.

Hell you'd think real flag waving chest thumping Combat Veterans like you would be all "Support Our Troops", but no you go off on some insane blather about Big Brother.
I guess you must support the rights of business to fleece and rob our soldiers.

You drunk? Can't be just raw stupidity, nobody is that dumb.

As much as you ask people if they're drunk, perhaps you are the one who's drunk. A bit of projection perhaps. Do you need help? I know some people. Seriously, you seem to have gotten a bit more extreme in your bashing lately. And that's saying something. Everything ok?

As for the young military being fleeced ... Yes it's a problem. Has been since the beginning of time. Ever read about camp followers and the like from times gone by? There are always scum trying to pray on our soldiers. Does that make it right? No, of course not. But at the same time these pay day loan guys are not doing anything illegal, dishonest and immoral maybe, but not illegal. So what are we supposed to do? Either educate these guys about it first thing in boot camp, or outlaw the pay day loan practice.

And the military guys aren't the only ones being preyed upon. I would say that many/most of these same scams are being tryed on our college campuses. Ever see how many of these places also exist close to colleges? Ever see all the credit card people set up on nice days in the quads of these campuses?

The bottom line is that people, even if they are "only" 18-20 years old, must start taking responsibility for themselves. If you don't take responsibilty for yourself and your actions at 18/19 years old, when do you start taking responsibilty for yourself? A bit of simple education is all that is needed. The old saying of "if it's too good to be true, it probably is" would be a good start.

And lay off the insults, and the booze. Neither get you very far in a debate.

As usual your self proclaimed superiority has failed you. Other than having the branch of service and rank wrong, you make the mistake of assuming I wasn't in a technical field. But as usual your attempt at an insult not only failed, but showed how petty you can be at attempting to attack the poster rather than the subject at hand.

You also assume that anything infantry based must be in the armpit of America somewhere. In my local area two of the more "infantry" oriented type bases are flanked with multi million dollar homes in exclusive neighborhoods. The closest area with any business is the resort area of Virginia Beach. I'm sure the souveneir shops exist only to pray on the young servicemen!

I've never come close to perfection, but if I was ever arrogant enough to rant as if my opinion were fact and eveyone else was a complete moron, I'd at least attempt to show that my math skills exceeded those in third grade.

Having lived near military bases my entire life (which exceeds the 40-42 years) I've realized that they are in character with what the rest of city or town without the base is. And I've been in areas away from bases that have as many if not more of the shady business practices that you seem to think are exclusive to military areas.

A fool and their money will soon part, but a great part of society deals with credit improperly, both here and in other countries. Your average credit card used improperly is just as bad as a shady rent to own place.

As for DoD and local military involvement, that's a by product of the military trying to keep the money in the fool's pockets. Most commands have off limits areas and warnings of the shady stuff, as well as financial counseling and resources exclusive to the military. Even when living in other countries many bases have financial planners that waive consultation fees and give reduced prices for services. Quite a few businesses offer discounts to military, and in some cases even former military. In our area I could have probably taken a choice of 10-12 places to eat a meal for no cost on Veterans Day. A number of the places doing that are national chains that did it all over the country.

Even short term memory should remind people that a recent government bailout was in large part a result of government pressure to make sure just about everyone got a home loan. I don't have sympathy of anyone that made a decision to try to live above their means and failed, and the loan crisis is just more proof that such poor decisions are not limited to young military people.

Even though you are obviously an experienced internet troll and you're baiting, I'm wondering where where you get off making such a odd claim that I have claimed superiority, self proclaimed or otherwise?
    I haven't and you lie. What's new?

You also assume that anything infantry based must be in the armpit of America somewhere.
I have never claimed that or assumed that, again, you lie.

In my local area two of the more "infantry" oriented type bases are flanked with multi million dollar homes in exclusive neighborhoods.
Good for you, I'm thrilled for you.
However the subject of this thread [b]was[/was] the cold blooded murder of 4
LAKEWOOD, WASHINGTON cops. So while you brag, I'll kindly remind folks that Lakewood, and Parkland where the diner was they were murdered in is not a very nice part of the Tacoma area, itself not a very nice area by local standards..

The closest area with any business is the resort area of Virginia Beach. I'm sure the souveneir shops exist only to pray on the young servicemen!
Oooo You made me spit my tea out, you are such a wit!

You imply it in every post you write, especially towards anybody whose view your imagine is wrong, You imply it with your out of context and twisted readings followed by your painfully turgid and uptight "raving". ( <---That was an example for you of your unflinching constant ridiculing any opinions 1 degree the the Left of your Right wing extremist blather IMPLIES a unspoken presumption of superiority in a obvious way. You may be an extremist Dead Ender but you certainly know how language works and you know you presume superiority. The consitency of your ranting implies a belief in self perfection.)
As to your childish sniggering and chortling about the math read what I wrote [qoute]I just lived here for 40 years and the first 17 in and around military bases, and more than 25 years very often very close by.[/quote]

I have lived in the US for somewhere between 40 and 42 years, I've lived elsewhere for another 15 or 16, nowhere did I say 25+17 equals anything, that is your own presumtion, or knowing lousy attempt at ridicule.

Once again a presumption you know all.
Your attacks are oh maybe 5th Grade level.

Having lived near military bases my entire life (which exceeds the 40-42 years) I've realized that they are in character with what the rest of city or town without the base is.
You can't say with accuracy? And you ridicule a similarly general off the cuff comment?

Again you must see that there is foundations to the contempt people have for your presumtions of superiority.
And I've been in areas away from bases that have as many if not more of the shady business practices that you seem to think are exclusive to military areas.
I neither said, nor think that. Again you put words in my mouth of willingly lie.

A fool and their money will soon part, but a great part of society deals with credit improperly, both here and in other countries. Your average credit card used improperly is just as bad as a shady rent to own place.

Never suggested or implied it was limited to anybody.
Again reading words that aren't there, willfully trying to twist my words.
Such a fundamentally dishonest person you are.
    Bad Airshifter, bad.

    And such selective memory. oi!
Did YOU forget that when REALLY BIG BUSINESS wants a trillion dollars or some huge loans, they go to Congress , stick out their hands and Congress gives it to them. Like they just did?

Bankers, mortgage brokers etc did what they did perfectly willingly and made obscene fortunes while doing it. Surely even a guy like you can remember that.

But, what the hell does this have to do with anything?

Your attacks are so consistent that you'll come and make massive presumptions and twist words and lie over a simple sarcastic response to a Canadian truck driver who implies perfect knowledge of America and all things American, and defame me for mentioning what sort of area Lakewood---where I pass thru often enough--is.

What a strange and pathetic human you are.
What an inflated sense of self importance.

Jan, you never SAY you are superior to the rest of us, you just vehemently attack anyone who disagrees with you and then complain when you get the same back.

A debate means taking in the other guy's point, and just occaisionally acknowledge they MAY have a point. Since this is beyond you, I wonder why we bother..

Airshifter was in the miltary, so I think he knows exactly about the way the servicemen are preyed upon. Since this has NOTHING to do with the thread (the 4 cops being shot in a coffee shop while surfing the net) in hand other than this area happens to have a few legal sharks nearby, I fail to understand why you need about 6 posts to demean the cheap loans biz, the pawn shop owners and the intelligence of anyone who you disagre with.

IN short, you hijacked a thread that was dedicated to the tragedy of 4 cops getting shot minding their own business by a guy who obviously wasn't all there and shouldn't be on the loose. He was on the loose because of a libreal and kind justice system, one of which your side of the political fence would usually endorse. So either attack the justice system for having this mook on bail, or Huckabee for letting this guy off a few years ago. Tell us how the community must feel having 4 cops shot. Going off on one of your left wing temper tantrums blaming the stupidity of a world that fleeces young soldiers and their money is another thread. Try it...so I can ignore it in the future...
