Happy Birthday Gilles
Gilles Villeneuve was born 57 years ago on this day. As a fan of Ferrari and Formula One, I can appreciate what he has done for the sport even though I wasn't even born while he was racing.

I think it was Clive James who said Gilles "was a poet of a driver".
He is sorely missed, not only for his flat out driving style, but also for his skill and determination in cars that rarely matched his talent. His forthright views on F1 would also be very welcome today.Riccardo Patrese - 256GPs 1977-1993

Gilles was one of my first real heroes. I remember watching him win the Monaco GP on TV in 1981, and being transfixed by his spirit in the No.27 Ferrari. I was only 12 years old at the time.
I can still vividly remember finding out about his fatal accident at Zolder from my mother, and then going out into the garden and staring into space, tears running down my face.
Oli vs Paddon is an interesting fight eh
