The top 16 all opted for medium tyres, as Lando Norris launched from pole. McLaren and Ferrari impressed on Friday with their upgraded machines. Norris got the perfect launch. Piastri was up one to establish a McLaren one-two. Championship leader Antonelli was swamped, dropping to fourth behind Leclerc.
Russell, and a wheel-to-wheel Hamilton and Verstappen followed. Hamilton emerged ahead, as Pierre Gasly got a clip on the outside of that duo. All three escaped without damage. Antonelli quickly went on the offensive, leaving Leclerc complaining about the Italian moving under braking. Norris, meanwhile, had put a second and a half between himself and Piastri by Lap 4.
Russell went for it into Turn 17, passing down the inside. Antonelli looked to retaliate down the main straight into Turn 1, but Russell held the inside line, and fifth place, for now. As Antonelli struck back at T11, Verstappen and Hamilton were in the run-off, Verstappen returning to the circuit ahead. Hamilton complained of an off-track pass, as Verstappen returned the position. Verstappen re-passed Hamilton at Turn 17, the Ferrari unable to respond into T1. Job done for Verstappen.

Kimi Antonelli handed costly penalty after Miami Sprint rules breach
Kimi Antonelli's fourth-place finish from the Miami Grand Prix Sprint race was scrubbed after the penalty.

Kimi Antonelli was stripped of his fourth-place finish in the Miami Grand Prix Sprint race after a post-race FIA penalty. Crossing the line in fourth on the road, having started in second following another bad launch off the line, the championship leader was placed under investigation for breaching track limits, having already received the black and white flag for three warnings.
His fourth breach earned him a five-second time penalty, which dropped him from fourth to sixth in the final classification, and promoted George Russell and Max Verstappen up one place each. Instead of extending his points lead over Russell to 10 points, Antonelli now leads by seven points, with 75 to his name versus 68 for Russell.

McLaren secure Miami GP one-two, as Norris dominates ahead of Ferrari and Mercedes

McLaren have secured their first one-two race finish of the season at the Miami GP Sprint, after Lando Norris got away from the slow-starting Mercedes of Kimi Antonelli, while Oscar Piastri fended off Charles Leclerc for P2. It was another slow start for Kimi Antonelli, who fell back to P4 behind Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc, respectively. Lando Norris kept his Pole lead at the start, and made a 1.5s gap on his McLaren teammate by Lap Five.
Max Verstappen dropped back a couple of places from P5 in the opening stages, coming close to contact with old rival Lewis Hamilton, who passed him for P6. Speaking of close contact, Cadillac's Sergio Perez made an impressive start at the manufacturer's home race - making moves on Liam Lawson, Alex Albon, and attacking the Williams duo.
On Lap Seven, the Mercedes pair clashed, with George Russell taking Antonelli at Turn 17. But it was only a lap later until Antonelli had P4 back at Turn 11, with Hamilton and Verstappen going off the just behind them. Verstappen got ahead of the Ferrari driver in the move, but quickly gave the spot back. On Lap 9, Verstappen got the move done cleanly enough this time at Turn 17, the Briton without the answers to fight back for P6. All of this battling behind was good news for the McLaren drivers and Leclerc, with the top three eking out a three second gap to P4's Antonelli.

Lando Norris wins F1 Miami sprint as points leader Kimi Antonelli penalised
Lando Norris triumphs to Miami Grand Prix sprint race win ahead of McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri.

Lando Norris won the Miami Grand Prix sprint race ahead of McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri as Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton reignited their old Formula 1 rivalry. Reigning world champion Norris, who became the first non-Mercedes driver to take a pole position in 2026 on Friday, led from start to finish and took a controlled victory in the 19-lap sprint race ahead of Piastri, who kept Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc at bay to secure a McLaren one-two.
It was a bad day for championship leader Kimi Antonelli, who lost early ground with another dreadful start. The Italian teenager beat Mercedes team-mate George Russell on the road to take fourth, but was handed a five-second penalty after the chequered flag for repeated track limits infringements. That dropped Antonelli to sixth on the road, behind Russell and Verstappen. In what was a fairly uneventful sprint race, Verstappen and Hamilton engaged in arguably the most entertaining on-track battle.
The pair somehow didn’t crash as they ran side-by-side through the opening sequence of corners at the start, before Hamilton snuck past with an overtake that was missed by the TV cameras. Verstappen barged back ahead of Hamilton at Turn 17 but had to give the place back after going off track to complete his move on his great title rival. On the following lap, the four-time world champion was able to pull off a clean pass on Hamilton to seal the position and conclude a thrilling battle.

Kimi Antonelli saw his championship lead eaten into after the Miami sprint race after being handed a post-race penalty. The Italian was found guilty of track limits, and lost two positions to George Russell and Max Verstappen.
The Mercedes duo crossed the line in fourth and fifth, respectively, before the penalty was applied, behind the front trio of Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc. In the team's standings, Mercedes still holds a strong lead out front, while Red Bull has moved itself up the order.
