Getting the times was pretty bad for the whole event. I was convinced numerous cars were out or had issues as their times didnt show, only for them to reappear hours later or even the next day !

Even following the live streams wasnt great as there were some only on YT and some on FB, plus a mix of action & stage ends from different stages. And of course my big bugbear of a commentator talking over the cars as they passed (and saying how great it sounded !!)

That's correct. I've worked with Martin on various events for 35 years and would have been assisting with results from home on the event this year if he'd been available.

I'm well aware of the difficulties involved in getting times from clocks in the UK and the steps that TCS & NERS take to keep tabs on incorrect times that come into the system, and times that fail to appear. They also have a routine that uses a statistical analysis of each competitor's stage times to look for "flyers".

I think you're correct that the "stand-in" results team may have underestimated the issues that we're familiar with. It will be interesting to see, in two years time, whether they're interested in repeating the experience and, if they are, whether the service improves on this year.
