Wanted to comment this old post that although it is true, then there are still some mixed signals. Hyundai saying that they still wait for Tänak’s signing, Ott saying that the team will announce the it when they are ready and the biggest mixed signal is that Tänak has been in a good mood for a couple of events while being in a title hunt with an underivable car.

I just think he will not be competing. That’s all.
No Hyundai, and Toyota was never an option

So both rovanpera and tanak retiring. Ogier can go win another 5 titles if he wants.

Can't believe it happened. From Pirelli Star Driver up to this point, man... as a fan of motorsport, this era will stay with me forever. Could talk for hours how there was this big void after Markko's premature retirement and emergence of Ott, but no need. Damn. I'm gonna be in a real state for a while.

Copium says Ott can’t be bothered with Hyundai anymore and driving in 2026 would be basically worthless for 2027 onwards anyway. So he‘ll take the year off, enjoy family life and see if anything worthwhile lands on his desk in six to nine months‘ time.
Regular brain says this is more likely to be a Häkkinen sabbatical situation and wishes him and his family all the best.

I think he was smiling because it dawned on him that 2024 really was his last chance to win a championship and he took it.
