BYD has revealed new engine designs and systems that may lead to radical changes in what energy will power cars in the near future. With WRC already geared towards new regulations for 2027, could we be headed for a rethink?

fowler said the regulations have a section for the engine, but also that if someone wants to use alternatives, fia can add a chapter for it. No one did it at the moment, but it is possible for the future.

    No.

Forgive me if I didn't see it for skimming, but what change is so radical?

apparently the whole "rx and rallying cars being on the same page" thing that FIA said months ago is taking shape
fia tested a rally2 skoda and a rally4 renault in rallycross track at kymiring right after the world rallycross race there, to "compare lap times" and see how they perform. they even mentioned stuff like "if you want to start a RX championship in asia, its complicated. but with these cars its easier" (probably because theres TONS of rally2s and rally4s out there, you dont need the million buck RX supercars)

rx is also in this urgent need of going into something cheaper to attract more racers, new teams, new cars. even if it is a little bit slower. And now that we KNOW that ~ rally2s ~ (both rally2 and the new wrc27 - that is on the same level of power) are the new top class in all the world of rallying (including national series), maybe we can start assuming FIA is actually bringing the same concept into rallycross.

thats good, cuz it brings more chassis/body pannel/car brand's partnerships builders into the general game!
sure, RX cars normally need more powerfull engines, buts its just a matter of building them insinde the rally2s/WRC27 chassis /kits. RX engines are basically all build by oreca, mountune, omse or pipo. just fit them into these ~ rally2 ~ chassis (R5 or WRC27) and there you have it!

i think that could be interesting for both rx and rallying. its more 'builders' in the game, its more places to sell your old R5, more places for "builders" to sell your wrc27 chassis and body pannels. lets hope something good comes out of this
(again, i'm assuming based on this random test and the little info we got. theres a video with andrew coley talking to the fia guys too here: https://www.reddit.com/r/FIAWorldRX/...rx_of_finland/
