If he doesn't get himself turned around after the break, I think he may be done in F1. Not because Ferrari fires him, but because he won't put up with lesser performances from himself. He's made enough money that he won't ever have to worry about anything on that front. He has so much pride that he may choose to go on with other things.

Yeah, no doubt he could walk away and be fine financially. I think for most drivers at some point that is the case unless they want to live huge, but most of them don't reach very close to the top unless they really love driving and competing as well.

At some point they have to decide when to call it quits, and though some will want to go out on top others will stick with it for the enjoyment of the sport and the challenge.

It's hard to say which way he will go right now. I suspect he will always get his head back in the game and finish the season, and a history holds true maybe even a stronger season end then he had season start. But it doesn't seem like him to be so publicly vocal about his self-doubt and where his head is right now. Regardless of what he decides I think most of us would like to see him turn it around and at least get back on a positive note about being in the sport.

His accomplishments and records would command respect regardless of when and how he calls it quits, but I'd hate to see him walk away with so much doubt in himself after such a great career.

Interesting that Lewis seems to be suffereing from self doubt when his brother has had similar issues:
