It is true that there were floods last monday, but fortunately, they were not serious at all.
Some small material damage and two or three cars that sailed into the Atlantic Ocean

Yes, in SS1 and SS4 fog could appear, and then , suddenly the sun.
For this reason, Gran Canaria is kwons as "Miniature continent"

Thanks, all, great tips... I bought my ticket last year and it was a pretty good price for a Denver-Las Palmas flight. I was thinking on renting a car and driving around to safe and (hopefully) not so busy spots. I have made some research using google maps and there are some "accessible" places not in the spectator designated areas and was planning on visiting 2 stages per day (3 on saturday with the SSS). However, I don't know how chaotic would it be driving around there during the rally. Thanks, again!

I'm glad you got a good price for your flight.
Just a note. You will not fly to Las Palmas, YOU WILL FLY TO GRAN CANARIA, which is the name of the island. Las Palmas is the main city on the island, and the capital of Gran Canaria. Maybe you have that confusion because the IATA code for Gran Canaria airport is “LPA”.

I hope you enjoy landscapes of Gran Canaria and, of course, the Rally Islas Canarias.

To give you an idea of the organizational and accommodation capacity of the island.
GRAN CANARIA will be the first island in the World to host football matches of a World Cup, it will be in 2030.

Yep, I will be flying to LPA (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria). Thanks for checking! I am really looking forward to a great event! If budget and wife allows, I may be able to make another trip later in the year (CER, maybe?). We'll see...

Ok, I hope you enjoy beaches and landscapes of Gran Canaria, and of course, with the event.

"The first stage will be the most difficult one. Over 26km this stage climbs up from 406m to as high as 1786m above sea level. During our drive we had all possible weather conditions: Cloudy in the beginning, then sunshine on the narrow part, and on the smooth uphill part on the GC-130 road we had rain, then heavy rain, then fog until we got above the cloud and saw the sunshine again"

"This stage is very nice to drive, even if this not so nice weather. Smooth tarmac and very flowing corners - I could drive forever on roads like this. It just has a hard rythm breaker with the tight hairpins on top which on the other hand serve as a great spectator area (at least when there is no fog)"
