One thing where new points system makes things more fair is this. Under old scoring system Elfyn would gain a lot more points if Ogier allowed him to win. With new system, difference is just one point for Sunday (and currently Evans is quite low in Sunday times thanks to drama on previous stage). Therefore, Ogier can win without making any meaningful dent on Evans' championship hopes.

As i said, he still has the luck of a champion. His mistakes could have ended his rally a few times, but he got away with it every single time.

Seb would actually have to drop a lot more time than just letting Elfyn by. He'd have to drop behind Andreas too for the Sunday points. I'm assuming Elfyn will overcome Munster during the PS. Probably best strategy is that Seb makes sure he doesn't beat Elfyn in the PS.

I'd agree that this is one unintended good consequence of the new points system. Although I'm still not a fan of it overall.

Me neither, it makes points calculation helluva lot more difficult and speculations almost impossible.
