Don't think so. The gap(s) at the front are so small that you can't but push all the time as you wouldn't be able to make up the lost time on tomorrows stages. Every second you gained today you won't have to fight for tomorrow, regardless of the split points or not.

It was said in commentary and I can see comments at various places that this stage was even more of a mad drive than the rest of the rally. Looking at TN/MW reaction at the end suggests there's something in the new rules.

The new points system has to make some difference when there's 3 pts to gain and so a '6 point swing' on Saturday between 1st and 2nd (if you finish the rally tomorrow)
