Doubt he cares whether finishing 5th or 6th in the championship. Podiums are psychological development milestone. As it stands Elfyn is taking more points than him, and the table doesn't differentiate Saturday and Sunday points.

Oh, not easy to read. Seeing that Neuville was behind Rally2 after leg 1 here and Lappi was behind three Rally2 after leg 1 in Japan while Mikkelsen was never behind Rally2 overall in Monte.

Picking Lappi instead of himself didn't make much sense so it left Neuville.

Definitely not but likely FIA thought that in order to make it appealing enough, points haul from Sunday must be substantial or drivers aren't motivated to take risks. And whole point is diluted if drivers cruise on Sunday.
