But what about the snow tyres running on the gravel... surely this would (over) heat them increasing the pressures ?

been like that many times... most extreem 2020 sweden and speed then was unreal on the solid frozen gravel roads without any ice... ok, then was michelin
you must understand how studs are working - they need something to bite in: eather ice or frozen gravel... on gravel they would overheat, and on michelin they would fly away... one by one... on pireli they just rip off part of tyre... different production style...
I've driven both michelin and pireli spyked tyres, both were OK for me
I'm not yet up tp these 3 top drivers who managed to tore away a racing spyked tyre
