This is a quite unbelieveable article from Hugh Chambers in Motorsport UK's latest magazine. Most of the ideas he is critical of came from David Richards - his current boss..........

Average speed record in Rally.
Rally Argentina 1983
Stig Blomqvist - Björn Cederberg
189.53km / h, 25min and 48sec of stretch at full speed, 81km of stretch.
Section Fray Luis Beltrán and Valle Azul
And he didn't train it, he ran it with notes from Hannu Mikkola!

That average speed has been always suspecious to me. I actually believe more that it had a wrong length in the itinerary than that it was a real average speed.
Those of you who ever played RBR know Frazier Wells stage. On PC simulator the "flight" over this stage means average speed around 150-160 km/h at world record (don't know what the record is now). Even on a computer where stages are generally faster than in reality such average speed looks like far impossible.Last edited by Mirek; 6th February 2021 at 17:49.

its a post from French forum,(thanks to Calagan72) and i thought that his work to find these statistic worth to have here, and to discuss further
Watch that the most successfull wrc drivers started very late(Loeb,Ogier)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At the same time by making them start the rally barely out of the pram they begin to experience the 3 young people
Solberg (19 years old) - 5th season - 45 rallies
Rovanpera (20 years old) - 9th season (: eek- 74 rallies
Loubet (23 years old) - 7th season - 55 rallies
Given the track record they have having started so early, it's not surprising that things go quickly, after the rally it's also maturity, management etc ... it's up to everyone to prove themselves in the future (although Rovanpera already seems very solid)
It may only be a coincidence, but we can see that among the very great rally drivers those who started young are not necessarily very good at regularity and race management (and 'a championship):
Latvala (1st world rally in WRC at 18)
McRae (1st world rally in WRC at 20)
Hirvonen (1st world rally in WRC at 22)
Solberg.P (1st world rally in WRC at 23 years old)
Gronholm (1st world rally in WRC at 24 years old)
Neuville (1st world rally in WRC at 24 years old)
Sainz (1st world rally in WRC at 25 years old)
Ogier (1st world rally in WRC at 25 years old)
Loeb (1st world rally in WRC at 27)

Rovanpera is totally back at it. Second on the road and only Thierry got close to him.
