The main point is just that the car is not good. A driver like Camilli or Suninen should be good enough to be on pace with any R5. This was proved by Breen, who won rallies with the old Fiesta and even with the Hyundai. Drivers with less experience have won WRC2 with Fabias and Polos (and old Fiestas). Just slow on Tarmac as they have been (pretty much) from MC last year.
