Tanak mentioned being bothered by the number of Chilean Suns after one of the stages

In fact I think a few drivers complained about visibility, but straight after the stages drivers will mention the most obvious factor - which would've been the feeling of lack of grip.

The low sun and shadows were the same for everyone so no excuse there.

Yep. And that to me serves as a proof that it's more mental than anything else. If we look at Lappi's WRC learning curve, the fabulous victory in Finland 2017 is the turning point. Sort of, atleast. Seems like the underdog role just suited him better and he's yet to cope with the pressure and expectations WRC winner has to. I sincerely hope he finds a second wind sooner than later.
ku ois neljä pyörää ku vetäis ni ois vähän eri sekunnit kyllä pätkillä, sen mä takaan

Esapekka Lappi Rally
@EsapekkaLappi
I feel sorry about the misunderstanding there’s around things I’ve said. I didn’t meant to hurt anyone, neither Chileans, Argentinians nor Mexicans. I am thankful for the warm welcome we received in Latin America. We’re proud to be here and share our passion for rally.

So the explanation for Neuville's time on SS2 is even simpler.
It's the exactly same loss per km to the stage winner as he had on SS1.
