99% of the time in sure it'd run safely, but she can't take the chance. It's different if it's one idiot who's positioned in a bad place - they might not even be picked up or spotted by any of the marshalls or safely crews. But after warning the crowd of people to move back or the stage is cancelled - and also doing it on AllLive too, she couldn't then let it run if they didn't move sufficiently. Spectators just had to suck it up and watch from a different place.

Marshalls and organisers could've done a better job earlier on of sorting the problem I agree, but Monte has always been too relaxed with spectator safety compared to other events it seems.

It's rallying, not F1 with huge concrete blocks every 5 meters in deep. You never... NEVER can get 100% safety in rallying. So whats next? Cancel all sport and go back home playing more safe chess?

We're about to come onto SS5 now. The start and end of the stage look fast..... I'm going to presume this is somewhere on the middle of the stage

On the positive side, like denkimi is saying, let’s hope this early cancellation will make spectators realize they must take organizers orders seriously for the rest of the rally.

I doubt the troublemakers are real rally fans, who are going to visit another stage.

Embankments need to be higher than one meter to make them safe. Things happens on straights also, especially in a rally where grip levels are inconsistent and the asphalt bumpy.

Sometimes when a really crazy accident happens you can be hit even hundred meters away (such as on Barum 2012 or the city stage in Finland many years a go). It happens from time to time and there is never 100% safety in rallying. Not saying that what usually happens in Monte is good but a charge for 100% safety in rallying doesn't make much sense either. You can achieve that only with no spectators around at all.

Some of the comments here are just plain stupid. was she supposed to stop there to make them move and delay the stage?
Fact is some spectators are just ignorant and they do not listen, she did the right thing. If some one was killed or injured you all would get on about how the sport is not safe and Michelle did not do her job.

No. If it was that serious situation that stage could be cancelled she should have stopped at site and make them move. Only the Godess have in mind what will be decided...
