Because some of those people have been spectating here for 30 years, know perfectly good places to stand and arrive 4-5 hours before the stages to be there (tell me another sport with fans doing this) only to be told to move for some blanket 20m rule with no context applied.
I don't know the specifics but if you haven't seen them then don't judge so quickly. The sport has done a good job creating more interest but with so few stages there are more people watching with far fewer places to spectate from.
With only two stages tomorrow it could be a disaster.aka Rodger Davies

we have here people that standing in safe position and that safety crews told him to move to 'safe' spot. C'mon they already there! And that cancelled 'too fast' Sweden stage in 2017 told a lot to what safety approach they take. Go 50m of a road or stage will be cancelled. It's not right at all.
So I don't think that real situation so bad as Mouton describing.

This ^
It pisses me off so much that a few people with too big egos ruin it for not only the several thousand that is also along the same stage but the millions sitting at home watching this.
Not to mention for the marshals, the volunteers, the coc, and everybody at the service park who could have slept 1 more hour this morning.
...and the sponsors.
There should be a court where the economic consequences can be settled against the retards who don't comply. That'd get people listening.
