If you are referring to Sardinia that was 100% his mistake, jumping right on the stone that was outside of the road when cutting. They even said so in a press release, there is drone+onboard vid analysis made by wrc.com as well.

Actually his mistake was he didn't cut enough, like Tanak for example. Pure recce mistake.
