    Waltrip PPI Racing Transporter Suspended

Another scandal for Michael Waltrip, and Cal Wells is involved this time:

NASCAR announced Waltrip-PPI Racing transporter driver Douglas Mercier has been fined $5,000 and suspended indefinitely for unauthorised duplication of a NASCAR Annual Credential during the May 18 practise for the Nextel Open. Mercier violated Section 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing; unauthorized duplication of a NASCAR annual credential) of the 2007 NASCAR rule book.(NASCAR PR)

No penalties to Cal Wells, the car owner. WPPI has made two consecutive races when neither of the MWR cars have made races.

Does anyone know what this means? Did he make a laminated copy that looked like a real Nascar hardcard, or did he just photocopy it like many people do to have a copy of all their important documents?

What I heard was, he worked for someone else last year and had his hard card from then-thus the Haas involvement I think. He took his old hard card and put his girlfriend's photo on it where his photo was. He gave it to her to use last week. He had turned her name in for a legal cold garage pass that she could use most of the weekend-using the hard card for pit road etc when things were "HOT". Like an idiot, she wore the hardcard around her neck when she went to get her legal credential. The head registrar wondered why she needed a pass when she had a hardcard so he investigated further. He found her picture pasted on a last year's card. The guy hadn't even changed the name or anything on the card. He got caught and if NASCAR holds true to form, he may never get reinstated. Not a smart move to mess with credentials-as bad or worse than messing with tires and fuel.
