You can try to rent the car in Grenoble, that is about the only place where you will have winter tyres.

If you are in the need...Imagine the cost for chains was 64e...At least Marseille is in the middle of Gap - Monte Carlo and airtickets are quite cheap from Greece

@Rallyper-you are already handicaped with winter period for eight months, so it is easy to say for you...on the other hand, go once for example to Italy in summer and ''melt'' yourself at 35 degrees....I did it many times...and I enjoyed!

However I wouldn´t hesitate going despite hot weather...

I reserved cars with winter tyres a couple of times from Nice Airport. They were always confirmed. But when I arrived it was the same story every time: Sorry, our mistake. But we don't have winter tyres right now. But we give you snow chains . . .
