There are lots of people stood in that bowl area to driver's left over the jump. Nice atmosphere but they aren't really seeing very much except the back of people's heads.

It just seems sacrilege to have that kind of structure out in the forest like that - especially when 75% of the imagery they use to sell the rally comes from that spot.
But - as some of you guys often says: the show must go on and organizers need to bring money to feed FIA and on and on. So it comes out as more and more commercial to be able to carry out the event. Look at NORF. Same thing there. Good places are VIP places. But oc there are good places for average Joe as well. Like here in RS.

Absolutely not true, or do you care to be more specific as I know you know Rally Finland well? VIP places in Finland are without exception on open areas such as fields and junctions. Good place is a subjective opinion, but for Rally Finland it ain't known for open fields sections or junction (well, open field Kakaristo junction is an exception, but there's plenty of room away from the VIP tents).

What comes to Colin's Crest - or similar wellknown areas on other events too, of course they are as crowded as they can be. There might not be another Colin's Crest in Rally Sweden, but for sure the event is not short of spectacular jumps, over crest jumps too. All up to your own preparation or your friends' prepapration to find those spots. Rally organisers have to hold a level of safety standards and plans, so of course they put places they can especially look after on spectator guides. The beauty of this sport in many countries is that spectating is not limited certain areas, but you're free to choose. Choose good.

If the Shakedown is on gravel and the rest is (hopefully) ice and snow then the Shakedown is not really what it's meant to be?

From the pictures there's rather solid layer of ice on the road. Remember that for most of January it was -5 to -25 celcius on that area for weeks. Frost goes way down. Forecast predicts minus temps for each night until the event and also minus temps during the day for some days closer to event. It's also better for Hagfors area. I'll be damned if the road open ups on muddy gravel.

If the weather on yr.no is true with constant + degrees from saturday morning until tuesday night with some rain I'm afraid there is no chance there will still be ice left on shakedown, maybe more like icy gravel. Hopefully they will move the service to Torsby next year and bring some new stages and old ones back like Likenäs, it's getting a bit same old now.

Colins Crest doesn´t differ from any VIP place at NORF. There will be places for everyone at Colins C. However NORF has so many other places for us nerds...
    That´s what I meant.

Two weeks ago I was looking at the temperatures in Hagfors, they had -20 degrees back then.
I was scared and didn't know what clothes to bring...
I already bought a fleece face mask
