It's also level 2 of the world championship and the media, even in the local country, cares not one iota. At the very least, winning the more prestigious ERC events gets far more recognition and coverage, even if just locally.

However, seems many of the drivers who want to get to the higher echelons are now expected to have event experience before reaching it.

I am not 100% sure that in reality it is important, when you are young, to know WRC stages to be successful there. Of course, it is one of the aspects. But not only one. And in other aspects it is better not to hurry up to WRC and spend money for gaining experience and developing more effectively. But it is same like in other sports - if you have money or potential, immediatelly you have lot of "helpers" around who primary wants to gain some money from you. And for sure you must spend more money for WRC than other opportunities...

I agree with you completely, but it would seem to indicate that, within the rallying community at least, WRC Promoter is doing a better job at Eurosport at attracting these entries or persuading them that WRC2 is a better value, more attractive package.

For sure this is not about WRC Promoter, they did nothing. Same like FIA. Eurosport is at least trying to attract/persuade drivers, despite I think, it should be done better. But presence of so many crews in WRC2 is mainly because of "helpers" and "intriguers" I have described in my previous message.

Same goes to media attention. When Škoda was winning rallies in IRC/ERC our media were full of it. In 2015 You can't find an article saything they won something in WRC. You can just find that "Prokop finished 8th, Kopecký 12th". And that's all. Tell me what is good about that?

WRC2 is good for someone who wants to step in WRC or wants to drive WRC events because it is WORLD rally championship. Still the public or media recognition of WRC2 winners is close to zero. For manufacturer PR it's just wasted money.

I hope VW is financially contributing to the 'youth training scheme' that Skoda are running for them then.

No doubt WRC promoter has very little to do with WRC2 revamp, but it's fair to say that Junior WRC is a strong category since 2001 and there was always WRC competitions for 2nd level rally manus (F2, Gr.N, etc).

To the young drivers coming from Junior WRC or WRC3 and to those 2nd level rally manus having a chance to get into WRC, it makes sense to be in WRC2.
