    Because they all fancy themselves as a WRC champion, however unreasonably.

    Same reason so many young circuit racers pay fortunes for GP2 and GP3 rather than get paid for big sportscar races.

    In one way, it's good; the talent is concentrated and we'll get a proper 'world' championship. The shame is the damage that could be done to the wider sport and the prestige of classic events.

    Also, fewer events in the championship and manufacturers subsidising events might make it cheaper, as might your seven events being in western Europe.
