I personally like more the traditional "Big Brick on Wheels" look of rally tracks.

My guess is the first 2008 DKR was too close to the production car size,Peugeot trying to make the DKR light by making it small - short and narrow. The 2016 looks more like a race Touareg now.

It has nearly nothing common with race Touareg. This is a buggy. It has huge suspension travel, a lot bigger wheels, much less weight etc. The rules for buggies and 4WD are very different. This new Peugeot is closer to other large buggies such as those from Gordon (it's also closer to American baja trucks than to 4WD Dakar cars).

Not the most reliable source, but Autosport.pt reported yesterday that Loeb will be driving a 2008 DKR in next Dakar. The announcement will be made next week before Maroc Rally, in which Loeb will race the car for the first time.
