I agree with nafpactos. Motorsport is dangerous and everyone must keep that in mind, especially public for which this is just a "nice picnic". I hope all other injured spectators in Spain are going to be well and speedy recovery!

It's likely to be a combination of all of them. Any loss of life in Motorsport is tragic - but it's somehow even worse when spectators are killed. Is it possible for events to ban spectators? In the UK organisers are clamping down on the areas were spectators can go; events are setting up spectator areas; and that is the only place they are allowed. Not popular with fans.

Drivers must have space for errors. It´s up to organizer to make up enough spectatorfree zones!

You can't blame a driver for 20 injured spectators, something is just not right....

And up to spectators to use their brain. Organizers can't be on every meter of the stage. We have more than enough experience here with it...

Anyway the last to blame is the driver. He has a right to make mistake.

It's also true that asphalt rallying is a lot more dangerous than gravel but since most of the European roads are made of asphalt the accidents will always happen. That of course doesn't mean that nothing can be done to make the risk smaller.

I did not say it was a pilot fault . Now driver´s errors are also part of the equation like technical failures.

Tarmac and drivers trusting their tires. Has to be the main thing..
Grippy grippy tires and so any fool who can afford a car and piles of brand new soft compound tires can corner at very high speeds. The maybe somebody has flicked the ash from 1 cigarette in a braking zone or mid corner..and the next guy loses grip and crashes.. Once the tires SNAP loose, very little time/chance to catch the car....and if there's lots of people the chance for a horrible result is high..

On gravel we don't "count on" tons of grip....if you have it,. OK, cool but if we don't have lots of grip---that's normal..

Tarmac --all forms, bikes ovals, Eff Juan, whatever on tarmac, they "expect" grip...


Expect the unexpected..


Make the tires "gentler" when they let go--and let go at much lower levels of force on them..
Then the cars on tarmac would look like they're on gravel, and it might be worth watching--and probably safer in the long term.
