Marshals "job" (not aware of anyone getting paid to be a marshal) is to ensure the safe running of the stage mainly centered around spectator safety and assistance of a crew in the event of an incident. Going onto a live stage to move rocks isnt exactly supposed to be part of the role however those of us who have marshalled will have moved rocks at some point. Its up to the crews normally not to hit them.
