    The F1 movie

Has anyone else seen the F1 movie ?
I saw it last night .

The first thing I want to say about it is that it's a dumb name .
It's not that that isn't what it is , but it isn't very imaginative . They could have come up with better .

As a long time fan of the sport , I found Carlos to give the best advice on seeing it . He said the real fan needed to remember that it's a Hollywood take on things , and that helped a lot as I watched it .

So as not to be a spoiler , I won't spew any details about it , but will say that things move rather quickly for Sonny Hayes , the Pitt character who makes his comeback to the sport to help out a struggling team .

It is an ad for the sport , and tries to portray the mindset of the driver , with demons and superstitions sprinkled in , and puts aside the "boring" technical aspects until needed for drama's sake (you'll get what I mean when you see it) .

It certainly depicts the speed and brutality very impressively .

All said , even though I went in with dread that it might be really horrible , I enjoyed myself .
There's a lot you could pick out to make one groan , and one that was particularly close to the bone regarding an F1 icon , but I think it will end up being a pretty good ad for the sport to the general public .

Dawg..... I purchased my ticket so far in advance that I got my dates confused, and missed the dog-blasted thing (one day late). A real lame-o move on my behalf. I'll catch it on down the line. It should be entertaining.

    Ouch , Taz .

The trophy wife and I saw it with only around 30 or so others in the theatre , so maybe you're not alone .
A small buttered popcorn and a small drink cost us more than the entry .
    It's been a long time I guess .

One cool thing I saw in the previews was that we should be seeing a Gilles Villeneuve movie next summer .
But , don't buy your tickets yet , man . There's no release date so far .

Yes, I had heard about the Gilles movie. I'm really looking forward to that.

I hope the movie covers more than just his F1 career. He was fantastic in F Atlantic. (Yes, showing my age.)

I'm actually much more interested in this than the current F1 movie. At least it will be some documentary type facts behind it and not a made-up script.

I'm not a big fan of movie theaters in general, but even if the current one was free I doubt I would make the time. Although some of the camera angles in action might be interesting to see from a different view, the whole script thing really ruins it for me.

As soon as I heard about love interests being in the move etc I had no interest in seeing this movie. Much like Drive to Survive which I watched and episode of and had enough. Zero interest in seeing this movie either. I detest all things Hollywood.

Glad you guys enjoyed it though

I saw the F1 movie last weekend with three other people who don't follow F1. They all enjoyed it. I thought they did a good job catching the essence of F1 without boring people with all the nuances. Overall, it was a fun movie, and we found that Toto can't act.

And , finally , a post from someone else who saw it !
    You're right that Toto can't act , that's for sure .

It was likely a good idea to go with some folks who weren't F1 fans . I wish I had thought of that .
At times I had to remind myself not to be too critical and just run with it .
It was pretty hard to read the faces of the others leaving as we went out to our cars , but there didn't seem to be any "buzz" among them .

It appears to have performed decently in theaters. It looks to have covered production costs already. Apple I believe is hoping that it will help generate additional interest when they take over the streaming to F1 in the U.S.

Rotten Tomatoes reports that critics like it at 83%, and the Audience reviews are at 95%. People are enjoying it, which cannot be said for many movies currently showing in theaters. I probably won't see another film in the theater until the Downton Abbey movie comes out in September.

    US ticket sales: $138 million
    International sales: $257 million

    UK $17m
    Mexico $13m
    France $12m
Australia $10m (overall Asia Pacific, it seems to be selling well)
    China $9m
    UAE $7m
    Germany $6m
    Italy $4m

Another brilliant marketing thing that F1 has done is the Lego F1 cars. They are getting major space in Walmart and Target.
