    Was Dennis Tennis a High Court judge? That would explain why there are Tennis Courts. It would also explain if it was a court of arbitration why there are independent umpires as well.

    Interesting question! Tennis has roots going back to 12th-century France, though modern lawn tennis was formalized in England in the late 19th century. The person maintaining the court is usually called a "groundskeeper" or "court attendant."
