If I may ask another newbie question:

It seems to me it's generally an advantage to go first on tarmac, and a disadvantage to go first on gravel. But what of ice, how does that work? And would fresh snow change anything?

Quite ok to be first on clean ice, real hell to be first on 10-15cm of fresh snow

I think Rally Racing is not overly complicated sport for average intelliget people. I can't understand why so many people are trying to place themselves above the rest in terms of their knowledge.

No such rule in WRC for more than five years. Even before it was 130.

Correct, it was 120 plus a 10% allowance over that. Rule no longer in the book.

Ogier seems to have golden hair growing, but it happens a lot, so it is probaly a combo of luck and skill.

Went through the regulations and safety guidelines and didn't see anything related to speed. Wonder how they call a stage safe or not? One person's judgement... There must be a protocol for this. Just have a feeling this issue is going to come back over the season. I don't want to be pessimistic, I just want these cars to stick around for more than just one year!

Average speed is not a good measure of safety. Believe me, I am from a country where average speed is held as a sacred safety feature. It has a meaning only in several special cases when comparing stages are very similar in their nature.
