There has to be some element of trying to be fastest otherwise whats the point, it might as well be just an endurance event.

If you have an off or a spin, at least it shows you're trying. Respect to those that try, not those who just take no risks whatsoever just to finish.

So all but the VW drivers should just drive around at Monte-Carlo with no risks. Great that would be for everyone to watch.

they actually did that including the VW team... the only one who took risks was Loeb and we know how this ended.
