The USRC needs to go away IMO but a merger is not an ultimate solution. Nasa Rally Sport is desperately needed as an alternative for the lower budget teams and in the event that something happens to Rally America (they are pushing the envelope hard at RA and sooner or later they are going to reach that point where they punch through or collapse). There needs to be an alternative but I do agree that there needs to be a monopoly on the National Championship.

As for a continental championship, one does exist. The problem is that Canada and the US are so freaking big, that towing all over both would cost way too much. The North American Rally Championship works given the constraints. The problem is that the state of the sport puts most teams beyond being able to pick up the extra events. Most teams that do events on both sides of the border don't do enough national events in either country to qualify.

In 2007 Antione L'estage was the North American Rally Champion, thanks in large part to his participation in STPR (which he traditionally does) and then New England because of the X games LCQ.
