Question to think about, another road-course to the Sprint Cup Schedule?
Listening to the different racing programs, it seems that there are something like 70% of NASCAR fans that want to add another road-race to the Sprint Cup schedule, many claiming that it should be added to the chase. I do not like the "chase", would rather see a more conventional run for the championship. I'm also in the minority, as IMO, stock cars are oval track machines and belong on ovals. If I had my say, Rockingham would be brought back onto the schedule before another road-course. Memphis Motorsports Park, a very good 3/4 mile oval would be brought onto the schedule before another road-course was added! What I do not want to see and what I am afraid will happen is, if they ever go through with this, we will lose an oval or a race at an oval. That, I DO NOT want to see. NASCAR has said that if a race is added at a different track, than those currently are on the schedule, a track will have to be dropped altogether or a current track will have to give up one of their dates! We lost one of our two races here in Atlanta because of this policy, as SMI moved it's date to Kentucky! An uneasy peace has been kept between ISC and SMI by them only being able to move dates from tracks that they own. So my guess is that if this were to happen, most likely it would be an ISC track that would have to give up a date or be removed from the schedule altogether. I doubt either Watkins Glen or Sonoma would be moved from their present dates. Each track pretty much utilizes the best date for their current events. My guess is that if this were to occur, the road-course most likely to be added to the schedule would be Road Atlanta. It is now an ISC owned track. Do not know which oval would lose one of it's dates or it's sole date. There are only three tracks on the schedule that are not alligned with either ISC or SMI, Pocono, Dover and indianapolis. Don't see them losing their dates. NASCAR would not likely give another race to SMI and to my knowledge, SMI does not own another road-course other than Sonoma anyway. Road-Atlanta would be the most obvious and most logical choice, IMO. It would put me in an ironic position. I do not like road-racing, but I most likely would go to it, because I live only 8 miles from Road Atlanta. It would also kind of make up for the lost of the second Atlanta race as well. So, am I right? Would it be Road Atlanta? If not, what road-course would it be and why?

Drop the Chase completely, add Mosport and Road America to the Sprint Cup.

I figured Miller Motorsports Park (perimiter course) would be the best choice because the closest Cup race to there is Las Vegas (400 miles away).
(Yes Portland is about 700 miles from Sonoma, but lacks garages).
Remember that NASCAR has determined track owners own the rights to Cup races; therefore, NASCAR cannot take races away by force.racing-reference.info/showblog?id=1785

That's not a bad looking schedule. We once had a thread here where we had our fantasy schedule, I did one that added a bunch of road courses and some of the "nationwide only" tracks to the cup schedule at the expense of doing away with most of the second dates. When I get a chance later I may dig it back up (although it probably needs to be redone, as it includes some now defunct tracks like Gateway and Nashville) :
Oh and ANY schedule that doesn't include the farce that is the Chase is fine by me#4 2014 Sprint Cup Champion, 2007 Daytona 500,2003 Brickyard 400,2x Coke 600,2014 Southern 500 Champ: 962 starts,90 wins, 345 T5s, 544 T10s, 44 poles, 2x NNS champ
He's in the regroup before the power stage at Vieira do Minho, there's a 38km road section to the stage then the stage then another 86km road section to the finish !!!
