That Lotus Indy-thingy is just hideous! It's begining to blurr the distinction between open wheeler and LMP 1 cars, IMO.

F1 whilst ugly, are at least blessed with the look of a racing car, whilst the Lotus thing looks a little like an 80's design study.

There's no competition for the best looking car this year... that's for sure.

The noses are ugly by design because of the technical restrictions imposed by the FIA in the first place! LOL!

According to Ross Brawn, it seems not:

"It is unfortunate," Brawn said, "and the teams should look at themselves and blame themselves.

"[Governing body] the FIA tried to do what they could and a number of teams wouldn't agree to the changes because they said they wanted to carry over their chassis, which we all know is a load of nonsense because nobody has carried over their chassis.

"We've ended up with a very odd feature on the cars which is not very endearing and I'm sure will get fixed for 2013."

The redesigned nose is a response to the FIA directive that the front end be lowered. Most teams took the creative approach to implement the “stepped” nose to achieve this while maintaining the height downstream of the bulkhead.

Blaming the FIA is easy but considering Brawn is much respected his response he makes it clear the teams had a say in the regulation but could not agree on the implementation, made their excuses so the FIA stepped in. The teams are as much to blame as the FIA.
