No MSA licence for Donington

How will this affect the forthcoming BTCC rounds at Donington?

Donington Park, the new venue for the BP in 2010, failed to get a racing license by the Motor Sport Association. According to the 'Evening Telegraph', the MSA rejected the application because improvement works at the circuit had diminished the amount of run-off between the Coppice and Macleans corners.

An MSA spokesman confirmed that there is "no quick resolution" to the "substantial" problem, but Dave Fern from Donington Park insisted that the track will be ready for the F1 race next year.

Donington Park has had its circuit licence refused by the Motor Sports Association (MSA), because work to improve the circuit had reduced the run-off area where a new tunnel has been built. A temporary licence was granted to allow the MG Car Club Championships and the Historic Sports Car Club Trophy Races to take place this weekend. The tunnel allows access to the area where the new pits will be built but the circuit inspectors reckon that this has created greater risks than previously.

"When it was inspected last week, there were significant issues which have been communicated to Donington Park," said a spokesman for the MSA. "They related to the run-off area between two corners, where the banks go down to the tunnel."

There will need to be significant work to solve the problem.

Lucky it wasn't chosen as the opening BTCC venue, otherwise the almost inevitable waved yellows down at the Old Hairpin would have precluded overtaking for almost half of the circuit!

He seems to be the only person that is convinced the event will happen.

In this weeks Autosport, they are not convinced it will happen.. Even Donington don't seem to be giving any positive news.

Curiouser and curiouser. Now the new management are being sued by Tom Wheatcroft for £2.5 million in rent. This does not bode well.

Wheatcroft & Son Limited, the owners of Donington Park motor racing circuit, have issued legal proceedings against Donington Ventures Leisure Ltd, the operators of the circuit, seeking £2.47m in rent arrears and forfeiture of the circuit lease.

Lawyers at Browne Jacobson LLP, acting on behalf of their client Wheatcroft & Son Limited, issued the proceedings at Derby County Court earlier today (23rd April).
