Rally Finland 2009 - route
Neste Oil Rally Finland 2009's rally guide 1 will be published tomorrow Friday 27th. However - they sent out a newsletter yesterday with a write-up of this year's route.
It looks good, at least. 23 special stages altogether with little less than 350 ss-kilometres. One third of the route is different compared to 2008.
Perhaps the most notable change is that the famous Ouninpohja stage won't be used this year in any form (last year it was shortened and called Kakaristo). This was rumoured some weeks ago in a local daily newspaper, and it was mentioned that the lack of volunteers led to this decision. I don't blame them. Also Vellipohja, Juupajoki and Kaipolanvuori are missing from this year's route.
2009 will see the return of Myhinpää, a famous rollercoaster-of-a-stage from the history. What I don't know is it only the stage name or will it be the same road. However, here's a video of Loeb testing C4 in Myhinpää in 2007. If it's that road, it surely looks great! Completely new stage on Saturday is Kavala.
These are the stages:
Thursday Jul 30th
Killeri 1
Friday Jul 31st
Jukojärvi 1/2
Kruununperä 1/2
Mökkiperä 1/2
Palsankylä 1/2
Killeri 2
Saturday Aug 1st
Leustu
Himos
Surkee
Urria
Kavala
Väärinmaja
(three of the stages will be ran twice, I don't know which three)
Sunday Aug 2nd
Hannula
Myhinpää 1/2
Ruuhimäki

is this like the last Finnish rallies, with most of the distance crammed into the first two days and then a 30 km day three?

Rally Guide 1 published - here's a link to the documents.
And yes - day 3 is sadly just 47 km in competitive lenght. I'd be so much better with 100+ kms as it were proved in Rally Norway.
Day 1 totals 133,28 km
Day 2 totals 167,61 km
Day 3 totals 47,38 km
Overall totals 348,27kmPhotos: rallirinki.kuvat.fi | Twitter: @HartusvuoriWRC

soon .. on my website .. google earth map
13 seconds is not something that is impossble to make up, there's still 130km to go and anyone can get problems of flat tyres. but i agree that setteling for 2nd would be the smart thing to do for...
