I hear that Rossi was on a qualifier for that time whereas Hayden was using race tyres.

I wouldn't look too much after that testing times, last 2 years Edwards and Rossi were flying during the tests, and thought that they might get a 1-2 in the championship..
We will see, I think it's going to be Stoner/Ducati on top again in 2008

What time would Stoner have set if he was there ? I think the Jerez test will let us know a bit more.

I'm not so sure. I've read several places that the Honda isn't all that impressive on race tires and Hayden was doing 2.02 without the sticky rubber. Rossi on the other hand was doing good runs at 2.01 with race tires.

As usually these numbers mean little. If you take a look at the Sepang times from the test this time last year. Rossi and Edwards were at the top of the sheets and not far off the 1.59 mark. Edwards ran a 2.00.248 and Rossi did a 2.00.793. That was certainly no indication of their season to come.

Testing is testing IMO. The drop of the flag for the first race is the only true guide. Like Ryan said, you can be the fastest in testing, but the race is what really matters.
